K-1 OVF overlay - is there a way to keep the red illumination on ?

So I'm having trouble seeing the focus points and the hoizontal/vertical levels in dark conditions (or when using aps-c lenses that don't cover enough of the frame) since the overlay indicators are all black. When focus is achieved they are all illuminated with red light that makes them clearly visible but only for a very short moment. As they flash all at once including the grid lines it is just too much information for me to absorb in such short time ...

I was wondering if there's some solution to that problem - like keeping the red light on or triggering it on a button press - but could not find anything in the menus other than turning it off completely

Menu > C2 > 9: Viewfinder light > On
doesn't trigger longer display of the VF highlights than the default 'Auto' setting, so there seems no way to make the VF lights stay on full-time.

work for you?
No, unfortunately this only makes the red light flash always instead only if the camera thinks it is dark compared to when it is set to "Auto"

So far the only thing that improves it is to disable the grid lines and have just the focus points and the levels on - makes them stand out better when illuminated. Still not very useful for the levels - it was much better the way it is implemented on K5/K3.

If you push and hold the AF-mode button, the red light stays on as long as you hold it pressed

+1. Good find. The AF lights and the whole grid etc stay illuminated.

This would do the trick! Not a perfect solution as it is designed for other purposes but makes things much better:
1. Press and hold AF-mode to illuminate the viewfinder and adjust your framing and level, 2. press AF or half press the shutter to focus 3. take a picture.
