I wonder if it needs a break in period. Hopefully the action improves with some use.

The K1 definitely has a mushy shutter button. I use back button focusing so it doesn't interupt my shooting, but if you do use the half shutter focusing it will cause some issues. It just seems vague as to how hard you have to push for focusing and how hard you need to push to fire.
I think most people will get used to it..
It surely is different and may not suit everyone but it is not a bad button so I don't think it is fair to make a blanket statement it will cause trouble using the shutter button to focus... Some people won't even notice the difference.

I didn't notice until I read the 'mush' comments. I don't have a finger made of carbonite; I just haven't ever had trouble half pressing buttons. The point where half-press ends still feels defined to me. I find the difference is in the travel after that point...

...I am afraid no amount of use will make the button feel like the button on my K-5 :^|
More likely that, with a break in period, your habit conforms to the button :^)

You know, if I hadn't read this thread, I never would've noticed the difference, and I use shutter button focusing all the time. My E-M1's shutter is also very similarly "mushy", and I have never had a problem half-pressing it, even with gloves on.

Needless to say, it doesn't bother me or affect my handling of either camera.

It's just something to get used to, no biggie.
