Tethering K-1 in to Capture One

Hi there

I use C1 as my preferred raw converter etc. I do not like Lightroom, but I have it as I subscribe to Adobe to keep my PS up to date, and LR is part of the subscription.

I just downloaded the tethering plugin for LR and updated the Firmware in the kewan. The tethering worked like a charm in LR and my pics were saved to a folder, which gave me an idea.

If I point my 'hot folder' in C1 at the folder being captured then I have Tethering in C1 by stealth..... and it works!

I don't see any real advantage,(slightly smaller files maybe?) and lots of downside to using PEF. I only use DNG

It's an old trick, something from C1 8.1 or something like that

Except that I had no way of tethering the camera previously. PK tether never really worked for me. So I never explored a way to do it.

Fast forward a few months... I Use Image transmitter 2 and C1 hot folders and sessions. It's woth the investment. IT2 can also shoot directly in to DCU. I use that setup when I want to benefit from diffraction correction at high apertures or so.

How long does it take to transmit one K-1 file?

The short answer is 7 seconds.

I've tested it recently with a 3m (9ft) USB cable and a MacBook Pro 2,3 GHz i7, 16GB ram, PCIe SSD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics. I guess writing and rendering in C1 might be faster or slower depending on your setup.

Image Transmitter 2 full image shows in: 1.3 - 1.8 sec

Finder (file is listed in the target folder)
PEF in Finder with LV off: 4.2 seconds
PEF in Finder with LV on : 3.8 seconds (approx. 0.4 seconds quicker)

Capture One Session
Image shows in Capture One, thumbnail: 5.6 seconds
Image shows in Capture One, full image: 7.0 seconds (it takes approx 1.4 seconds for the PEF to render)

DCU Browser
Image shows in DCU, thumbnail: 4.3 seconds
Image shows in DCU, full image: 4.7 seconds

DCU Laboratory
Image shows in DCU, thumbnail: 3.9 seconds
Image shows in DCU, full image: 6.0 seconds
Image shows in DCU with applied corrections (progress bar bottom right finished): 10-30 seconds depending on how many corrections applied.

(Edit: measured from pressing the shutter hence includes exposure time)
