Number of exposures on different SD card sizes

By way of a followup to: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/190-pentax-k-1/320193-sd-card-capacity.html

Since the manual does not indicate how many shots one can acquire per card, as in past manuals, I thought I'd post it in case anyone is wondering.

Based on camera set on RAW+ with DNG exposures going to the SD card in slot 1 and JPEG "L" *** to the SD card in slot 2. Set to force Full Frame, even if a APS-C lens is mounted.

Cards "tested":
SanDisk Extreme SDHC 16GB, 45MB/s
SanDisk Extreme PLUS HDHC 32Gb, 80MB/s and 90MB/s
SanDisk Extreme PRO HDXC 64GB, 95MB/s

Two identical cards loaded into the body and immediately formatted. Then "INFO" to read exposure capacities.

16GB - 200 DNG, 696 JPG
32GB - 401 DNG, 1304 JPG
64GB - 803 DNG, 2782 JPG

These numbers only corresponds to what the camera estimates when it is empty. When you start shooting you will be able to fit many more images depending on the subjects you shoot.

But good to know the minimum limit.

Numbers will also vary based on the subject and shooting parameters. Might be why they do not put a hard number in the manual any more.

But to confirm, my 32gb cards all report 401 images available for DNG. Have not tried any other size yet.

Just checked my 16gb and 64gb cards and I can confirm the exact same numbers. So I think the camera is just providing a generic estimate based on the formatted capacity of the card.

The actual number of frames that can be recorded on a card will vary quite a bit depending on the actual images being shot.
