I tried the 24-70 at a camera shop and it seemed to me that it's much faster in AF speed on the K-1 than the DA 18-135 on the K-5.

That's quite likely, especially if it wasn't too bright in there. The low-light performance of Pentax AF systems has been greatly improved over time, most notably through the K-5 II.
