Hoping for a new 85mm f1.4 for the K-1

As a primarily a portrait shooter I"m really hoping that Ricoh bring out a new DFA* 85mm f1.4 new the near future.

Maybe already on its way (from Tamron?), I wonder when it will be released.

I looks like one is on the map. I'm using my Sigma 85mm for the time being. We will see how the new glass stacks up. The D-FA* 70-200mm is also very good at 85mm, but its heavy. It stays in the bag more than I like. I want to use it more.

By this, he means the Pentax lens development road map:

A fast medium telephoto is slated for 2017, though what "medium" means is anyone's guess. 85mm is a short tele in FF land.

Ditto for "fast"

It could be the 77 ltd with HD coating, except as you said, short tele.

Is the FA 77 limited lacking for this for you? I went from using A* 85 f/1.4 to FA 77 but admittedly I did this in the context of APSC. However the 77 was created for film seven years after the FA* 85 was created and overlapped it for 5 years and stayed in production afterwords. My expectation should I end up with a K-1 is that I would use the FA 77 for that. Am I being naive?

There are a lot of focal lengths that Ricoh needs to release in a hurry. An 85/1.4 is just one of many

I'd bank on that "medium telephoto" being an 85mm.

That said, the Sigma 85mm and FA* 85mm F1.4 lenses don't leave much to be desired, unless you're looking for weather sealing.

To me that's surprising. With the FA 77 available and the DFA 100; but nothing between 100 and 200 and the only 200 being slightly less than FF enough that it defaults to crop and has a profile to help it be full frame, I would think a 135 f/2.8 or f/2 would be more in demand or a replacement for the DA 200. The 85 f/1.4 is absolutely shallower than the FA 77 - but the FA 77 was created concurrent with the FA* 85 and many seemed to prefer it for specific rendering at the time of the release.

And as though that wasn't enough - in no way is an 85mm a medium telephoto in full frame. It's short. but terms get translated and people forget frame of reference so I assume it could easily be true.

I have zero inside knowledge and limited understanding of the market so take me with a serious grain of salt.

I would guess 120mm f/2

Revival of A* 135/1.8?

I like my FA*85 just fine as is on the K-1. It doesn't focus reliably at 1.4 but I have no issue manually focusing it. And from 2.8 on focus is accurate and fast. Image quality is flawless.
I'd love a DFA* 135/1.8 personally.

According to that Ricoh survey that circulated, large aperture means 1.4 in the 85 mm waters and 1.8 or 2 in the 135 mm.
I'm with those wishing for a *135 1.8
oh and I hope the new 50 will be 1.2 or 1. I don't need it but hey, it would sure be fun and I would buy both.

To me, 85mm is much less important than 24mm (or even better 20mm ) prime.
Of course, that is highly subjective

However, there is already a 77mm and 100mm out there in the short/mid telephoto range but nothing wider than 31mm :/

There is supposed to be a wide angle in the pipeline, but since it is not labeled premium or fast, I would expect a 28/2.8 just like in the old days.

I wouldn't mind a 24mm f2.8 (or even better a 20mm f2.8)
But imho 28mm is too close to 31mm...similar to 77 and 85.
