K-1 not asking for focal lenght...

....sending it back?

Not like K3 and KiiS this camera do not ask for focal length on all my serious old lenses as k28/3.5 and m100/4 etc.

What to do?
Sending it back?

No, don't send it back.

Option C26, enable aperture ring should do it.

You did the same on your other cameras but probably forgot about it.

Before you send it back, check Item 26 in the C4 menu is set to Enable and turn SR on.

Why send it back? Have you deactivated image stabilizer? I have tried out with my K-1 and the SMC-A 35-105. It asks for the focal length, so I am sure, that it is a customizing problem ...

Let's find it out!

Should not make any difference if the setting below in correct and/or when aperture ring is in "A" position.

Steve
You can set the focal length in the menu, the option appears when the lens isn't automatically recognized.

I was modded...

...by the moderator - perhaps right so....

I was using the ##it word for all possible 423 (you might have another number near that) settings on the K-1.

I'm thankful for the answer "C26" - that worked - but but but...think stop think...are we not photographing ?

I like the FF and pentaprism but then it's You, the camera, the lens, ISO, F-stop and shutter speed.
That's it!!!!

Not 423 possible ways to do it wrong!

That is my opinion!

At least a button nullify all that ####.

(Was this softer expressed?)

You could always go back to the K1000. It's the modern age. You have settings. Maybe Pentax should allow use of the aperture ring by default, then there wouldn't have been a problem. Why disable it anyhow?

Why not a button - named "S" for spartan - and then all the tech-freaks would not use it - except for me and some other guys from the old days - where we used just the primary settings !!
We and those taking a pic without worrying.

Don't get wrong now - I love new and good technical things - BUT......
...remember nothing has changed from the old days.

You, ISO, lens, opening and shutterspeed!
That is (was) it!

OK -now I'm making a list of those 397 settings that can destroy a good pic and none is allowed to touch my camera.
Simple as that!

That is NOT how to use the camera but HOW.
Complicated with all those possible settings.

Thinking .... why not a tech-freak setting in pink colors - on all those settings for "experts" in the MENU?

(Remember - I'm a Pentaxian since 1973! Shelf is full of it - but I have canikon friends also complaining....)

As You do not want to pay an assistant to go to the toilet - You don't want to pay an assistant to make a photo.
