Actually they fail. One they use ACR. Two the scene is totally inappropriate for pixelshift. This article will be troll food.

Wow! I am impressed! I chose K3 over K3-II thinking that pixel shift will not be useful other than for completely static objects such as product photography. This test shows that it is usable even for a water fall, trees and leaves at 1/4 seconds!
I still don't think pixel shift is meant for such scenes.

Dang...I wish I knew they were down my way testing. The Punch Bowl Falls on Eagle Creek is practically in my backyard. I could have "helped" them

In the interview on DC Watch the Ricoh engineer said motion correction doesn't work on detail like leaves. On the seminar recorded from CP+ 2016 Tanaka Kimio uses a waterfall scene to demostrate motion correction. The video can be found in the events section on the K-1 special site or on youtube. Even with these 6th+ generation shots you can still see quite a bit of detail on the static rocks. So yeah, motion correction ain't gonna work all that well with a scene that is mostly plants and leaves.

The title is a bit inflammatory. The test itself is basically worthless - testing a feature under a set of conditions it isn't intended (or advertised) to handle. Of course it "failed". Waste of 5 minutes.

I downloaded raw file to the most horrible image and converted it by Silkypix Pro 7. Much better result even it still have some ugly leaves. See here

Pixel shift does work. Unfortunately, it works best if you generate a TIFF file using the Silky Pix software included with the camera (a very clunky bit of software) or, with dcraw (I think that's what it is called). You can then apply motion correction to the image and still have an image with excellent color depth.

That said, we need to be honest. This is worthless for hand held shots and for images taken with much wind if there is foliage present. The software looks for differences between the images and then uses the first image if there are differences, so as not to create artifacts. But if the images are totally different, then you basically just have your first image, in which case you are better just shooting a single image and processing it. It is a matter of knowing your camera and where certain tools within it are beneficial and where they aren't.
