FF vs crop mode

I'm keen to understand whether there are any IQ differences between using crop mode or cropping a FF photo down to the same size. I presume the advantage of crop mode is the smaller file size.

The only avantages are:
- the file size
- the burst rate
- the availability of the lens correction if you use jped and a DA lens with no in-body lens profile for FF (same applies if your software doesn't support your lens for FF)
- the metering is done only on the crop area (no impact except if your lens is vignetting A LOT)

You'll get rid of vignetting while croping in post as well.

And what does that have to do with crop mode on the camera?

The question was the differences between FF mode then crop to APS or crop mode directly.

You get viewfinder vignetting in both solution. You have an indicator of the APS area in crop mode but you have to stick with it.
