I like that Pentax has gotten the credit it deserves here, but I had a "hrmmm" moment in reading the review. The other FF DSLRs in the pack 6D and D610 were reviled for their autofocus, then also the K-1 is reviled "While the AF system of the K-1 can't keep up with some of its peers" but I'm left with who is the K-1 being compared to? the 6D & D610? or it's more natural competitors like the 5DIII & D810?

Is it's autofocus lacking when compared to entry level CaNikon FF standards or just by comparison to models that are significantly more expensive.

This is a common review problem as Pentax Cameras always tend to not fit into the nice CaNikon categories, typically punching well above the similarly priced competitors.

A tie is an insult. I used the A7ii before and seriously the image quality is probably among the worst in the class (compared to K1, 6D, D750) esp at high ISO. Ergonomically even Xpro2 is better too. So K1 should be the single winner in that round up. Of course if you think DPR must always give something to Sony....

Even though DPR did not explicitly state it, I believe they wanted a "DSLR Winner" and a "Mirrorless Winner".

I do remember a number of people on this Forum vehemently denying that there could be a Pentax Full-frame camera released, simply because there were too few lenses available new for it. It seems this attitude has reached some other parts of the photographic world (the review on Shutterbug would have to be a notable exception, in this regard) but there are 10 Pentax branded lenses available now, by my count, 11 if you can include the FA50/1.4 whose continued production I'm uncertain of, and quite a few 3rd-party makers' lenses as well. That's way more than the Sony A7 or the Fuji X lines started with, so I wonder why it's considered to be so much of an issue by some.

Still, if the K-1 was placed equally with a Sony that's been on sale for a while now, and ahead of similarly-priced offerings from Canon and Nikon, it can't be all bad.

Agreed. K1 is a bit of a hybrid considering the price, build, IQ..etc. Hopefully Pentax can actually produce enough of them to meet demands before the next shiny new camera from Sony or Nikon hits the market and takes over as the IQ king(Though I don't think they will match the price).
