Not just Minolta. Use of an articulating mirror hinge was fairly common with K-mount cameras in the early 1980s. My Ricoh XR-7 is made that way as is my Pentax Super Program. (Yes, I know, continuing the thread hijack...but it is important to point out that the problem of mirror clearance is not something foreign to the K-mount and that even legacy bodies were made that way.)
