We need an acronym page! DCU?

Do you only do the Pixel Shift (PS) in DCU and the rest in Lightroom? I strictly use Lightroom for my workflow. I tried to do PS in lightroom but not sure if I seen much of a difference.
Digital Camera Utility? It is the software that comes with a Pentax K-1 and it has the capability of developing RAW pixel shifted files, which Lightroom 5 doesn't really. I usually apply the motion correction, set the preset applied to "Natural" and dial the fine sharpening down 3 clicks. That seems to give me a pretty neutral file that I can do what I want with.

I process into a 16bit tiff then import into Capture one (9) and work with the tiff

You can do a JPEG as long as you like the way it looks. But then you might as well just shoot out of camera jpegs. The TIFF file gives a lot more depth to work on if you want to lift shadows or do some selective sharpening.

PS used for repro... Negative from Pentax 6x7

Awesome to see someone using PS to digitize B&W film, was wondering how the results would look.

One from Steptoe Butte in Palouse (washington state). I took both PS and non-PS shots here, and the PS shows a dramatic difference here in dynamic range, the foreground was pretty dark so there is still noticeable noise from lightening the shadows. But I have to say I absolutely love the quality of the noise flecks in the K-1, they are more fine-grained and so not as distracting to the eye and more like film grain (as others have noted already). This is the pixel shift version:

Yes, I think images like this might be the type for which I would try pixel shift as much as any other type. I wondered if the colors near saturation and maybe the transition to clipped would be better..

I have read some posts that working with a 16-bit TIF is as good as working with RAW file. This may be for many purposes, but I don't think TIF will allow highlight recovery in the way a RAW file would. I wish the pixel shifted images could be exported from DCU or Silky Pix as some format that would retain the flexibility of a RAW file.. that the greater detail visible in either a TIF or JPG could be repackaged into a RAW-type format for further processing...

Granted I am looking at this on a crappy monitor at the moment but looks like you're getting more detail from the Pixel shift than the Epson scan?

Terriffic image. I would have cropped a bit at bottom of the image.
