Reached home, saw that the sunset might be good and just took the camera to the nearby vantage point.
K1+M28/3.5, a really handy 28mm.

The 4 frames of pixel shift means that we almost have 4 frames of continuous exposure. (very useful for light trails)
So this can be easily processed out in Raw Therapee as 4 different pixel shift shots each using a different frame as the main image.
In other words, the traffic trails captured in each frame will be different.
After this, its just a matter of layering them in photoshop and using the "lighten" blending mode to only superimpose the light trails.

As usual, here is the full sized file. (flickr compression just does not do the files justice)

Playing with pixel shift these days. It looks like the best setting for pixel shift is TAv with shutter speed faster than 1/4th sec. Shutter times > 2 sec. do not give good results.

True, at least for outdoor scenes. Too long an exposure and even on a still day you will have enough movement between frames to make it a pretty useless feature. I tend to use Av mode and try to choose an aperture and iso that will give me adequate shutter speeds.

The interesting thing is that with RawTherapee you can see what percentage of your image the pixel shift helps with and how much has to be masked out with a single image. There are some images that I shoot with the pixel shift where I export using a single image from RT because there just was too much movement. You can still choose the best of the four to export, which is worth something.

:-) yes i've recently installed RT for the demosaicing of pixel shifted images. I had some pixel shifted raws with - sec. exposure and a bit of cloud motion, DCU produced some artifacts even with motion correction, RT is able to detect the motion and the result does not contain artifacts. With RT, pixel shift becomes much more usable, the output quality is pretty amazing.

Thanks pinholecam on this thread (and elsewhere) for extolling the virtues of Raw Therapee. I just downloaded 5.1 and used it to process the image below.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Asph lens, f6.3, 44mm, ISO200. Rested on a wall (no tripod), hence the cropped image.

A much larger (iMac desktop-sized version) is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9dwIDu9gH7FdDd5YWRsTk1pQzQ (it looks a little over-sharpened by the stepwise sharpening script I use).

Since I usually have a limited window to shoot due to family commitments, I tried to just take some food shots.
Something that I've always been intrigued about but seldom find the ability to approach it.

Perhaps food shots are some of the best genre for pixel shift.
Good light, tripod, good IQ from a stopped down lens and a subject that has all the patience in the world.
