I have no interest in polo, but those are some excellent action shots. Well framed, great toning, and ... in focus!

Yep a unique challenge indeed, but using the same set up as the OP (K-1/DA*300) the AF tracking was good for at least 2-3 images as they came through and exited the corner. These were the middle two of four images, the first image on corner entry locked focus on the trailing rider, as the two riders became closer through the corner (pic 1) the focus picked up and tracked the leader rider for these shots. By the fourth shot the lead rider was out of frame and focus just caught the trailing rider's helmet as he exited.

These aren't technically straight on but I'll see if I can get closer to straight on next time. They were taken during my first attempts working out how to get the best out of the set up and for this sport the prime is somewhat inflexible beside the track. Next time I should have the 150-450 so I hope this will be more flexible for tracking fast moving action.

Tas
Your shots do not depict the AF speed of the k-1. Bicycles are faster than motorcycles and horses. You guys are so unfair.LOL!!!

By the way guys all your pics look great.

You are holding the camera in your hand? Tjata not how you track things. Put it on a tripod and aim it stright forward.

Yes, being the fanboy of oldschool approaches that I am, I do not follow Amazon Ph.D. expert's sCiEnTiFiC advice of fixing a camera for sports on a tripod and rely on hoping that something interesting crosses the viewfinder.

That's funny. 😀

Forum members have now posted AF sequences of cyclists, horses, birds, motorbikes, and rally cars (I did an approaching runner with a K-x) and not a doctorate between us!

The Amazon scientists did show a parked car shot for the Canon 6D. It nailed every shot (of the one). Amazon-scientific conclusion: Canons* nail every shot.

*=Replace with any stereotype at hand.

Excellent photos thanks for posting. I would like to ask on the da*300 are you able to shoot full frame? I have the da*200 and it's is compatible for ff.

The DA*300mm is a full-frame design (and patent), and works fine on the K-1 in both APS-C and FF mode.

Yes, all shots shown here were made in normal 36 Mpx FF mode.

Is the vignetting we see on the pictures out-of-camera, i.e. without lens-adjustments in-camera or in postprocessing? Especially the one with the dog.

At f/2.8.

DA*300/4 is therefore disqualified. Great shots, but them's the Ph.D. Rules

I have added a -40 vignette in Lightroom for personal taste. Not the camera nor the lens.

Got a steam engine and monster truck coming up at the end of August. The Great Dorset Steam Fair!

GDSF - Great Dorset Steam Fair

I think monster trucks flying through the air should be a good test of AF-C and tracking.

Looks like DPReview was right. In the last photo the person on the right is way out of focus.
Isn't that called DoF?
