I hope Pentax USA monitor threads such as these ...

Repair centres like Precision should [ideally] have all the gear they need at-hand to perform common damage repairs, without having to rely on courier shipments from Japan.

Yeah I guess I shouldn't be surprised based on others' bad experiences but it seems kind of ridiculous that they don't have parts for their current flagship camera.

I have a feeling they don't monitor these. I might try their FB page to raise awareness on their part but I don't want to be a basher.

So..... My name is Matt and I broke the top housing for my K1 in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing shooting macros in the studio.

Tripod tipped over (I didn't have the weight attached on the bottom) and it landed right on the point of the pentaprism and cracked it exactly the same as your crack.
Still functions but I need to get it fixed. I'm in Canada so I guess I'll talk with Ricoh.

Let me know when you get it back

I too knocked my tripod over with the K1 attached. It smacked a submerged rock. I found water inside the battery and SD compartments. Waited a couple days to let it dry out before firing it back up...and the shutter is going bonkers. Also the back screen no longer functions. The camera was insured, so that's the one semi-silver lining to the story.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1471048677129.jpg

I think there could be a market for a K-1 roll cage.

I've been thinking about this already. I haven't finalised the design yet, but just in case someone tries to beat me to it, here's my prototype. It's crafted from all natural materials and seeks to retain portability whilst offering an authentic and professional photography experience. For added convenience, it incorporates a flip up sun-shade for the LCD and a matching lens protector with cap:

oh no. Sorry this is much worse than mine but basically the exact same spot for the crack.

I was about to suggest one of these, but when I looked, they don't make for the K-1, and even if they did, that one vulnerable spot doesn't look protected anyways.

Really sorry to see all these happen... and yes, I'm selling my tripod too!

Any rollcage would need to be non-metallic to preserve the GPS function.

Looks like it's been repaired and has shipped now. Hopefully it will be functional and back in my hands soon!
