Ugh I broke it

I went out to shoot the moon and Jupiter and when I was changing position my tripod fell over and broke my K-1 that I just got.
I guess I'll get to try my luck with Precision. Man, I'm bummed. I guess it was bound to happen one day but I just wish it was with an old camera!

I'm curious, does the broken section appear to be metal or some type of thermoplastic? I've been wondering how the GPS antenna operates in an all metal case without some section made of a non-metal material to allow reception of the signals. Does the camera still operate? My condolences.

That top bump is plastic and that is right where the impact was. It turns on but gets no aperture info from the mounted lens.

Sorry to hear this, Matt. On the positive side, the damage doesn't appear to be all that severe, considering. I'd say you have good reason to be hopeful. Good luck and let us know how you get on?

Ouch! I believe the repair is a flat cost of $300 ish. Let us know how it goes.

If you bought it using a credit card, you might be able to file a claim with them to cover the repair cost. I think some card companies have an inherent 1 year coverage for this type of thing, but I'm not 100% sure.

Ouch.

With luck, the plastic on top of the pentaprism may have sacrificially absorbed most of the impact, and no big shock was passed onto the camera frame or the camera insides.

So I went to Ricoh's site which pointed me to Precision. They had a model selector but no K-1 listed so when I click the "Not listed" option it goes to the contact info page. But the "Click Here to email us" link is broken which isn't encouraging.
Anyone got Precision's email address?

With regards to my earlier post, I found this online: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit-card-benefits/purchase-protection-cre...er-belongings/. Looks like the major credit card companies cover you either 90 or 120 days depending on the card company. I was mistaken earlier in thinking it might be a year.

Good luck!

Ouch...Yeah if you used the right credit card you should have 3+ months where it can get broken/stolen/lost etc and they will refund the purchase price.

Mate, that really does suck. But now it's happened and it is what it is.

Good luck with the repair, mine has to go for a check up soon and hopefully both stories have a happy ending.

Sucks with any camera, but especially the K-1. I hope it's salvageable for you. When you say the camera isn't receiving aperture data, can you still use it with aperture-ring lenses (one of which appears to be on your camera right now), or is it a complete no-go?
