I think that is compatible with what you just said.
Exactly, many pros who actually rely on photography for their income, can't afford that kind of specialty gear. The last two 1Dx guys I've seen were big income guys. MY last friend who made his income from photography, (I have a lot of acquaintances I see over and over again shooting out in the park etc.) but this guy's wife was friends with my wife, we went to each other's houses for dinner. Photography was an accidental common interest, we would have been friends without him shooting Pentax. For the last ten years hundred if not thousands of people on this forum have told me Pentax isn't good enough for weddings. I think of this man and his images, and I always think, "no that's not it, you aren't good enough for Pentax, that's the thing here" I don't say it, no point in getting all insulting, Needing to have the absolute best, most expensive piece of equipment to get the job done doesn't make you a better photographer. Knowing how to get the job done is what makes you a better photographer.
This man got kick ass images from his K-10D, and commanded a good price for his services, had his own bricks and mortar studio and for the most part seemed completely un-interested in the kind of gear debates that rage here endlessly.
If you have something that gets you the results you want, endless speculation about something else being "better" is a waste of time. And I've seen the same attitude from working pros shooting Canon and Nikon as well. I think the bells and whistles type of advertising is much more appealing to people who don't have good handle on what they are doing.
