I just requested a switch to the loaner unit. I have no more patience for this.

As for the 15-30, the only properly centered focal length is 15mm. Double price for equal Tamron lens with substandard QC is a bit wrong.

To be fair, this sh$t ain't free and there is something provably malfunctioning with the unit (new issue since repair). It's something that could get many people over the edge wrt. irritability and lost goodwill towards the brand in general.

But isn't politics all about antagonizing people?

Yeah so, ~6000 euros in Pentax gear and only working thing I got was 100mm WR Macro.

Here is the dark band of my first unit before service:

Perfectly working loaner unit:

Okay I got my unit back just now and...dark band is not gone but now the band looks like sandwich which has three layers. In the middle the dark band remains.

Amount of white dots is even lower than my loaner unit had. Loaner had no band though.

Now I'm puzzled what to do...
If behavior is not consistent across the full sensor and/or is not to the same standard as the loaner, the answer is clear...send it back to have the work redone and keep Ricoh/Pentax in the loop.

I hope they will allow it to be sent to Japan.
My hope is that they simply replace the camera and send the bum one back to Japan for forensic evaluation.

I just exchanged few messages with my dealer about this and switch to loaner unit (which was brand new when I got it) seems possible.

Am I our of order here - this thread got hi-jacked by the black band issue?

I don't have the black band, but have a lot of the white dots all over the image. Several days ago I asked the forum's opinion if this indicates a faulty sensor or software, but was ignored. I do not understand the tech problem the white pixels represent.

I believe it is the same issue. The sensor needs to be recalibrated.

We simply do not know if the sensor is borked or the software. Might be both or the other. Service points are now doing calibration that is for sure. And the dark band on my unit was affected during the service job so they are related.

Some update: I counted 5 white dots in 20 seconds PS file at ISO400 with quite a lot of pushing in post. That is HUGE difference what it used to be before the service.

Just to clarify: that is on your original unit, not the loaner unit?
