Anyone have any recommendations for a remote shutter release for the K1? the one I have for my K5 doesn't work with the K1, only trips the shutter in B mode . Its the JJC RM-E7 remote control

I use the following wired remote with my K-3 II and K-5IIS. It derives its power from the camera, so it does not require a battery of its own. I tried IR remotes, but the batteries did not hold a charge consistently. I use it to stop/start long exposures.

I have used this in my K5. K5-IIs. K3 and K1. I got two of them figuring that since they were so inexpensive I would have a backup if one failed. Still haven't opened the second one.

I have that exact remote and used it successfully this morning with my K-1 in M mode. Glad to hear that it's working for you now.

It really works well, and the price is nice.

BTW: I use the Vello wired remotes and also two models of their wireless remotes and all of them have been 100% satisfactory on K20, K5, K3 and now K1.

I tried the DSLR remote app for my K-1 and it does not work. It is not WIFI only audio and IR and could not get either of these to communicate with it.

But does your phone have an IR Blaster built into it for the app to use?

I have several wired as well as two different Pentax remotes. I prefer the wired shutter releases because of reliability. The Pentax is a bit pricey, but it turns out the remotes for canon typically work and are both easier to find and also cheaper. I also have a Chinese knock off called an aperture with a nice long cord and it is reliable. Haven't tried them on my k-1 but will in the next few days- I expect them all to work as they have on several prior bodies.

I used to use LG G2 and the DSLR remote app works without any problem. Now, I use a LeEco 3, which DSLR remote app doesn't support. But the ir remote app from the manufacturer could learn from the LG G2 and it also works. You probably need to find a smart phone that has an IR blaster built-in, which is not common nowadays.

Good luck.
