Does the stud come out of your ball head?
Yes it does... but I think the Manfrotto systems screws straight on top.

Many thanks, got this system on order now together with Manfrotto Monopod Tilt Head with Quick Release, as I already use Manfrotto bits and pieces it keeps life simple.
Most welcome Kerrowdown, glad to help.

You might want to check out Acratech's Universal L-bracket--that way you could just keep a single plate

I'll second that nod to Acratech, I have heard nothing but praise of their light weight ball heads, and well designed clamp system. RRS is another manufacturer worth taking a look at. I use a lot of their gear and have had my manfrotto 405 modded to work with their rapid clamp system.

Another vote for Acratech, have one of their heads. For its weight it has fantastic performance.

Who did that work for you? I have a 410 and have looked at Hejnar's mod....

I have an Acratech gp-ss ballhead. The way it doubles as a gimbal and as a levelling head is superb.
