...
As usual, these days, DPReview just regurgitated news from somebody else.

The original news came from PetaPixel.

Hot on the heels of the anomaly (almost two years after it happened...), DPReview now started their own "investigation" by contacting DxO. It would be funny, if it weren't so sad.

The actual explanation by DxO ("too busy to finish the review") is a joke and a half as well. They could have told us that a long time ago. Trust DPReview to take the statement at face value and argue the explanation dispels any conspiracy theories. Oh, boy...

Man they do like any other news paper or news website.

By definition most of the thing happening worldwide happen oustide the office of a small corporation/blogger/news paper. By definition, even with an army of investigators, you can only investigate what you already have heard of anyway.

Almost an infinite number of things happen all the time, media get aware of that by subscribing to various feed of information and they filter and rephrase it to match their audience.

When you have good knowledge on something, for example because you are a professional in the sector, you clearly notice that anyway what the media are saying is fishy. There some truth from time to time, but that's about it. There no reason to think they are not fishy in the other areas where you are not an expert.

For the case of DxO, they are a potential source of news, they are I think a DPreview partner. Why would Dpreview alienate their partner? A great source of news and provided of numbers and sensor analysis that feed countless discussion and traffic on their website ?

But the same is true in forums too. When Pentax Forum discuss with Pentax they are quite polite even if Pentax isn't saying much or thing that is not that believable. Most of the news we get there is often coming from another media, a good share actually being Dpreview and lot of Pentax Forum users are actually readers/participant of DPreview. And we are not objective. Each participant has its bias be it to over enthousiastic or negative on anything related to Pentax.

What specs are below k5/3? All dslr share the same "flaws" - no evf etc. I personally like ovf more after using it for a bit now, I was shooting mirorrless for three years.
Burst rate and buffer.

There has been so many comments about the Pentax issue before on DPReview that reading it soon would have someone from the staff could have think about the issue. So they had all ressources available to know that.
Pentax 645z in DXOMark 101 points..., is it true?: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
The Nikon D850 is the best camera DxOMark has ever tested, first to hit score of 100: Digital Photography Review

Reminds me of the practises Intel did to AMD, which did reward Intel with an 1.25 billion dollar antitrust fine.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. v. Intel Corp. - Wikipedia.

Now the 645Z hasn't been shown on DxO for two years, so other brands could use the time for developing and aquiring additional market share.
So even after 3.5 years DxO didn't finish the announced test&review.

And so what? It's life. You may be bothered by it. Likely not dpreview or DxO. And the AMD winning against Intel didn't make them the leader. Intel still make the most money out of the x86 market. Intel as won much more by abusing its position than it would have by being fair. The 1.25 billon fine is pocket money.

I don't say this is nice or whatever. I just say this is how the world as a whole works. People use all the tools at their disposal, legal or not. And in the case of dpreview or DxO, there no legal issue at all. They don't have any obligation, they have all the right to choose what they communicate.

If Pentax wanted the associated 645z advertisement, they could have done many things. Like negociating with DxO, setting up or buy an "independant" reviewer website that would always take care to have a positive thing to say of Pentax. Get as many pro with Pentax bodies in hands and so on.

Sure the smartest people actually manage to make others do the job for them or one can just get lucky, but there no warranty.

Yes, that's for sure.

Yes, they likely did not agree to spend the money to promote via DXO, so, it's actually Pentax's problem, like presence or the lack of in retail.
