No I'm more thinking that Image Trans won't handle or allow these two new options ... I may need to wait for an update.

Does a 1:1 crop frame show in the viewfinder if the square crop option is selected?

If this update would let the camera see random pokemon characters in liveview, they would have a winner.

It's an overlay now - this is why you can't change the focusing screen.

I hope the raw file is cut accordingly to the 1:1 format, so it’s not just a normal 36Mp file with a 1:1 setting carried over in the DNG file that only DCU understand.

It was reasonable to doubt that a square overlay would be possible because the overlay is almost certainly created with pre-defined segments, rather than switching miniature pixels on and off.

+1 to hoping that the RAW file will have square dimensions rather than a metadata tag being set. The former would be so much better (in terms of not having to use DCU and saving space on the card).

Perhaps this should be an option? Allowing you to shoot normally, but also recover the data outside the crop frame in a pinch, e.g. if your subject is partly outside it?

The preseries K-1 showed it with the frame stile like the APS-C frame in the view finder, only in 1:1 Crop.
Same now again in the new firmware next week.

Did you notice any other improvements except 1:1 crop?
