Pentax 1.4 converter on the 70-200 with K1

The reviews I have read on the Pentax 1.4x teleconverter give it good reviews, but will it work with the K1 without vignetting? Say with the 70-200, and 150-450?

It's one of the more expensive 1.4 converters on the market, but if vignettes a lot with the the 70-200, I guess I will have to wait for Pentax to come out with a new version. Or is there a good non Pentax version others are using?

Thanks
Paul C

The 1.4 will vignette badly when used on the K1 unless you use it in crop mode. Every lens I've tried it with on the K1 is the same.

If I am not mistaken, isn't the HD DA-1.4 converter designed mainly for the crop sensor? Perhaps the older version non-HD FA converter may work on K-1 in FF mode.

Yes it's designed for the crop sensor, but many of the lenses for crop only work fine with the K1, 200mm and 300mm for example. I was hoping the 1.4 would also. but appears it won't.

Not my experience with the Pentax D-FA 150-450 lens.
I use the 1.4x TC with the 150-450 on the K-1 and it does vignette, but only very little. It is no trouble to extract a good image that is quite a bit larger than the crop mode image.

Cheers,
Terry

I have the same experience with the DA* 300 and 1.4 TC in FF mode, the corners are a bit darker at the edges, but it is perfectly usable.

This should answer your question. I would wait for a FF converter unless you really need it now.

I can confirm this, the corners are black at the longer end but you don't have to crop much. I'd say it's clearly better than with the 60-250 without surgery.
