K-1 + Leitax? Questions from new member

Hello everyone,

I am looking for advice...

I am very interested in Pentax K-1 as if "he" could be my "last" (for a while) Digital FF Body. He has a nice Sony sensor (D810 36Mp). He has a nice digital noise process, better than Nikon, Pixel Shift and Stabilization options, and a fare dynamic range.

I like very much my EOS 6D bodies, the best Q/P EOS FF Canon but, EOS 5D MarkIV is very expensive in Europ (4000€), and EOS 5DSR is not so good in shadow (banding) process. As I want to improve 60x40cm prints at 300ppi, I'm ogling the Pentax K-1.

I have not to bother about lenses since I own Leica-R. So my questions are:

- has someone tried Leica-R with Leitax on FF Pentax?

- if yes, are there any issues with K-1 (vignetage and else)?

- Is it a good idea (does it worth) to change my Leica-R mount for Leitax/Pentax one to fit with this FF body?

thank you for answering,

best regards,

teiki.

Hi teiki, and welcome.

I have moved this thread to the K-1 forum (and deleted the other one in Post Your Photos), as "Welcome & Introductions" is just for that purpose alone.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice from K-1 owners here

Actually, I posted and created a new thread at the same time in "introucing myself". I am sorry about that. Thank you very much Mike.

Hi again, Teiki

This is quite specialised... Whilst we have a good number of K-1 owners on the forums, the camera has only been out a few months, and I think very few owners (if any) will have switched their K-1 over to a Leitax mount at this early stage. However, give it 24 hours and see if anyone responds. A lot of our members are in the USA, and as it is Sunday, many will be out doing family things. They are more likely to see your post in their evening.

I've edited the name of your thread to specifically mention the K-1 and Leitax... hopefully that may attract some interest

EDIT: Perhaps I misunderstand the Leitax product... is it only the lenses that require conversion??

As far as vignetting goes, Leica-R is for 35mm film, so it should cover the full frame. Examples from Flickr using the same-sensored D-810 show nice image quality and little to no falloff in the corners.

Yes I believe he's referring to the Leitax conversion of Leica R lenses to Pentax bayonet mount. As far as I know there is no Leitax conversion for the mount on the camera.

There's a company in Singapore called Adaptist that makes a PK+MM mount for your camera which basically allows you to mount Nikon, Olympus, Contax/Yashica, Konica, Micro 4/3 and of course Pentax lenses to your Pentax body.

Check it out here: Pentax K+ Multi-Mount (WR Version) - Adaptist

Hi again Mike,
I found someone who converted his ZF Carl Zeiss lenses (for Nikon) with Leitax mount to fit with Pentax K-1... Thank you again!

Thank you very much indeed, I have not been able to edit the title...

I have been knowing Leitax products since the beginning but using Canon EOS FF bodies, I used to get an adapter so no need to change the mount... But since Canon products are getting more and more expensive, since I was not enough convinced either to switch to Nikon bodies, and finding out a perfect product (?) in Pentax K-1 as an ultimate FF digital body for the good price, I decided to buy one unless there are issues with that camera. that's why I am looking for an advice. But for 2000€ (in France), this is a bargain IMHO compared to 4000€ EOS 5D MarkIV (DPR is uninteresting)...
Here is the Leitax site:

best regards,
teiki.

No problem mate. Regarding your original question, I am sure someone has already tested this. Like BigMackCam said you will probably get an answer by the end of the day.

I hope you find what you're looking for that will work best for the gear you own .

On this German Pentax Forum there are users who use lots of Leica R lenses converted via Leitax.
Just look for Leica lenses in this overview of lens clubs:
Lens Clubs - Hinweise und Überblick - Wichtig ? Pentaxians

The more recent images tend to include K-1 samples.

Get a used Sony A7R2 for using fully manual adapted lenses. K-1 has "issues" with them when using live view in manual mode - exposure simulation does not work for one. Horses for the courses and K-1 is not the one to use here if you want to work with live view.

I had several of mine leitaxed for my K5IIs back in the days before Sony's A7x cameras were introduced. I've only taken few test shots with these on K-1 and as far as IQ is concerned there's nothing to complain about - there are no dark corners or smearing or sensor reflections, etc. that I could see. However, the widest i have is the 35 2.8 elmarit-r .. wider lenses might have some IQ issues.

I'd second MJKoski that currently it makes more sense just to get a Sony and R adapter rather than K-1 if you are not considering to get any native lenses for it anyway.

Leitax operation will cut selling value of Nikon glass as you have to file off some parts of the aperture ring. Dunno if that is the case with R-glass.

Thank you all for your answers,
ConcerningSony A7xII, I am not convinced by:
- EVF which is horrible to my eyes. EVF of the Leica SL is very nice but I don't want to waste 7.000 euros in a camera...
- the Sony sensor for wide angles especially as it is. The K-1's and other OVF FF bodies' are much more qualitatives.
- their batteries which are ridiculous.
I am overjoyed by the skills of Pentax K-1 which seems to have been created by photographers for photographers.I don't feel it just as a marketing FF body.
So if you knox someone who has some Leica-R with Leitax mount on a K-1 body, please let me know about it...
I am very intested of advices about:
- Leica-R 28/2.8 (II) ROM
- Leica-R 50/2 ROM
- Leica-R 90/2 AA ROM
- Leica-R Macro 60/2.8 ROM
to begin.
Best regards.
teiki.

The modification for R mount lenses is fully reversible, which you would have known if you had taken 10 seconds to actually look at the Leitax web page.

OP did not ask about Nikon glass.

Note that ROMed Zooms cannot be Leitaxed, but the primes should be OK.
