PC Desktop tethering K-1 via WLAN works well

The windows software Claus developed for the K-S2 does work well with the K-1 too, even liveview display works well.

Get it here:
Pentax-K-S2-WiFiRemote - Browse Files at SourceForge.net

Thanks for developing this.

I was surprised that you can still press the shutter button on the camera when liveview is streamed to the PC.

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing this out.

So now we have at least 4 tethering options for the K-1:

- Pentax IMAGE Transmitter 2 software (Windows/Mac - paid - cabled);
- Pentax Tethered Capture Plug-in for Adobe Lightroom (Windows/Mac - free - cabled);
- Ricoh Image Sync (IOS/Android - free - WiFi);
- Pentax-K-S2-WiFiRemote (Windows - free - WiFi).

Not bad.

???

The Image Transmitter 2 CDROM is in stock at B&H right now. And the Ricoh Japan web store. It's also still featured on Pentax web pages - eg this page for the 645Z and this one for the K-1.

I think these are existing stock. It's not available on their EU sites. I would guess they're either about to introduce a new version or perhaps have realised tons of people don't have a CD drive any more, though why they don't already offer a download is perplexing and why they wouldn't make it immediately available for download doesn't make much sense either. So my guess is it's gone.

The CDROM is listed there (eg Ricoh UK store), but they just have no stock. I don't think the product is dead.

They continue to update it - as recently as May 2016 they released a v2.2.0 update.

If you need a free and downloadable solution, the Pentax Lightroom plugin is free.

The problem is that all of these, due to Pentax's crippled WIFI implementation, are too slow to be of use to most people, because the battery will go flat before you transfer the SD card

The average desktop doesn't have a Wifi interface, so I wonder how that works. Laptops, yes.
I can access the WLAN from my desktop through a wired router. But still not direct wifi.

You're right.
The K-1 WiFi works as access point, so the K-1 can't be integrated into the LAN. A new point to point connection is the only way it works.
On your PC yo can use an wireless USB adapter or an WiFi mini AP Router.

I went with ASUS AC1200 USB-AC53 Nano after having no luck with net-gear.
Works great so far.

The IT2 CD is available on UK and DE Ricoh shops.

They offer it already for download, you just have to know what to do before installing the "update". But it is technically available immediately.
