FA* 85mm not Auto Focusing on K-1

I just recieved a FA* 85mm and for some reason, it is not autofocusing on my K-1. I have tried it in both AF-C and AF-S modes as well as in live view. I have tried cleaning the contacts on both the camera and the lens mount and it did not make a difference.
As a sanity check, i just tested my FA limited lenses and all 3 auto focused just fine.
Any idea what could be going on? Has anyone else come across this issue?

the fa*85 has a clutch in the focus ring. it will push and pull to click in and out of AF

make sure it's not in MF

Have you turned the focus ring to manual mode? You should also have the aperture set to "A".

Have you used a FA* lens before? There is a clutch mechanism in the focussing ring - the ring needs to be pushed away from you, exposing the words "AUTO FOCUS" on the barrel of the lens, to enable AF.

P.S. Enjoy the lens - it's an amazing optic, albeit it big and heavy.

I really dislike this design of the FA* lenses. The optics are awesome but the paint and clutch...definitely not premium features. :/

Back then I think the clutch was cool. But definitely antiquated by modern standards... can't beat quick shift.

Yeah, it definitely feels like it was trying to be futuristic and advanced. But clearly, the engineers never put one in a bag or interchanged lenses. A few minutes with it and it's obvious it's not so hot...

Yeah. Now I have a K-1 and DFA15-30, DFA24-70 and DFA*70-200, I tend to agree with you. A small part of me wishes I had held onto mine....
