What am I doing wrong?

Every photo I take has a processing delay. Regardless of lens or setting I can't take more than 1 photo for several seconds. I've checked everything I can think of. I mostly use a DFA 70-200, FA 31 or M50 F1.7. I have 2 SanDisk 64 gb Extreme cards (95 mb/s) that are about half full. Bald Eagle flew in the yard earlier and I wanted to take several shots but the delay stopped me.

Do the SD cards cause this delay?

Thanks

Your Highlight and/or Shadow corrections are probably turned on. I don't have a K-1 yet, but if it is like older models, they introduce a significant delay. (So turn them off.)

I haven't noticed a delay for those features on my K-1 (which is nice). So if that doesn't help, what speed card are you using?

Is the camera's 2-second delay timer 'on'?

lens corrections cause a delay, too.

It has to be something like that.

Other things to consider...
Are you writing with jpegs and raw?

This is what I find to be the big drawback for wildlife...

Buffer clearing was quite slow, taking a glacial 48 seconds to clear a burst of 74 JPEGs, 31 seconds after a max-length burst of RAW files, and 34 seconds after a max-length RAW+JPEG burst, when tested with our 95MB/s SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I card.
Waiting 34 seconds for the buffer to clear with such a small buffer is an eternity. I find practically, with my set up, I get about 6 images at 4 FPS before clearing the buffer slows the camera down to a crawl. Just another reason, I still depend on my K-3 for birding.

Thanks everyone, I'll check those settings and report back.

Have you formatted your cards recently? Not doing so can slow things down.

Most likely it's one of these:

1. Using distortion correction (+1s per photo)
2. Using clarity enhancement (+3s per photo)
3. Saving to both memory cards simultaneously (doubles writing time)
4. Using pixel shift (quadruples exposure time and adds a few seconds of processing)

Highlight corrections and most other settings don't slow the K-1 down.

It was the clarity. Had it at +1. I think it only affects the jpegs which I never really use... I wanted to see if I could get a decent jpeg so I recently set a few parameters to experiment.

Pixel shift off? That would put you into a 30 second delay with some shots.

Good that you discovered it.

An advantage of shooting in RAW is that you do as little or as much clarity you like in post, shot by shot.

That's what I normally do. I know some have their jpeg settings adjusted to give them a nice 'shareable' output, which is a great idea and what I'm starting to strive for. I save jpegs to 1 card & RAW to the other, which seems kind of a waste because I never use the jpegs. I realize this is a different subject but what do you do with all your jpegs?

If the JPG looks good I'll use it as my final image, just cropping in Picasa and adding some contrast

Otherwise I develiop the keeper RAWs in Lightroom, and the remaining JPGs die when the card gets formatted.

The delays should not affect the image buffer in my opinion. A long break after the first shot sounds still funny to me.
