Mecablitz 36 doesn't fire on camera

I have a Mecablitz 36 (Pentax version) which fires when I press the pilot button with the flash off-camera, but I doesn't fire when it's mounted on the hot shoe. Is there a setting I missed somewhere? I've set flash to "on" in the menu.

Really pushed into the hotshoe? Shutter speed 1/180s or less?

Which camera body? I do not think the 36 has been reconfigured to work on a K1.

Yup, the K-1. I would've thought it would at least work in manual mode... my old Yongnuo worked fine

The ad I saw for one suggested it's P-TTL only. Why don't you contact the manufacturer? It may need a firmware update.

I'm almost certain the 30 series does not have a firmware update port. That option starts in the 40 series. So is problem is the Metz 36 is communicating APS-C lens coverage while the K1 will only trigger the flash if it is communicating FF lens coverage. SFAIK the 36 has not been reconfigured for Pentax FF. He'll need to purchase either a Metz 26AF-2, which would be the least expensive and most compact (NOT the 26AF-1 which is strictly APS-C), or a Metz 44 AF-2, which would be slightly larger, more powerful, and feature-laden than the 36 (again, NOT the Metz 44AF-1 which is configured for APS-C).
