Crop Mode Question

So if I set the K-1 to crop mode with a FF lens, will I get the same zoom equivalence I would get on a true APS-C sensor?

So for example FF 50mm lens is 50mm on K-1 in FF mode, is it 75mm equivalent on K-1 set to APS-C mode?

Crop mode on the K-1 is basically equivalent to using a K-5 with one less megapixel, a much improved AF system and extra shake reduction.

To much criticism from some...I shoot almost 100% in the Crop Mode with my K1. Using the Bigma 50-500 this makes perfect sense to me and makes shooting and composing much easier than cropping in processing. I absolutely love the K1 Crop Mode and how that frame is outlined and lights up bright red when focus is achieved...which on the K1 is instantly!

With other lenses I would go FF...but most of my shooting is Bigma shooting. K1....what a wonderful camera it is!

Crop Mode gets you right in on those handsome critters and lets you frame the shot just as you desire before you snap!

Regards!

.....and you are getting the best optical qualities from the center of the lens and not the inherent issues of sharpness, vignetting, distortion, etc, associated to the edges and borders.

Except that with the uncropped image, you're getting the exact same "center of the lens" (actually, center of the image), and the borders.

Thanks all, took my new Sigma 120-400mm out today. Same 3 mile walk I take with the dog everyday. Normaly see hundreds of ducks and egrets. Today toting this big combo around on the monopod maybe saw 10 ducks, no egrets.

But overall happy with the lens and results these are mixed APS-C and FF mode. You might say I got my ducks in a row

Do you have a Beagle or an American Foxhound? Beautiful dog. I have two Whippets that I used to walk for miles, but they are almost 15 now.

Not to mention having all the AF points spread nicely across the crop zone, so at least one of them is highly likely to be "on"; vitally important when dealing with squirrels! (Do you find that having the peripheral zone still visible aids in situational awareness when trying to nail them on the move? That's one of the things I'm looking for in this camera.)

Yes, I find it helpful in composing the shot and not a distraction at all. The Crop Frame lets you get just what you want yet lets you see if there is a better framing option in the peripheral zone. All in all, the Crop Mode is wonderful!

Best Regards!

I like that I get the "extra" in the viewfinder when shooting in crop mode, but I also like that live view shows only the cropped area.

Okay, I'll have to be aware of that little wrinkle when I actually buy one.

Speaking of Live View, one thing I noticed about my K-5 is that it won't fire the inbuilt flash in master mode for an off-camera slave when the camera is in LV mode. I know the K-1 has no inbuilt flash, but I would be interested to know if a hotshoe-mounted flash set to "master" is crippled in the same way.

Also, please tell me the K-1 has a PC sync port.
