Silly, trivial K-1 firmware question.

What was your firmware when you took it out of the box, and when did you buy? (Or perhaps more to the point, what is your approximate serial number?)

I'm curious to know if newer, more recent K-1's have shipped with updated (e.g. PLM and square crop-enabled) firmware.

I have just had my original K-1 exchanged for a new one as a gesture of goodwill when the tech's couldn't replicate the fault in mine. My original serial number came from the first Oz batch starting with 63. I picked up the replacement camera last Friday with a serial number starting with 72. It shipped with FW 1.0.

I don't know how to paste the link in my phone browser but I added a thread in the K-1 forum with the details including links to the two other instances of the problem that I am aware of. You can find it in the stats in my profile.

FYI, after posting I realised that in each occurrence the camera was fitted with a battery grip. Not sure if that's relevant but it must be included so investigations rule it in or out as a contributing or causal factor.

K-1 fault with a happy ending is the post you're looking for.

You can check manufactured date in the EXIF too. Mine was made in Sept 2016 and had firmware 1.0 on it

Serial # starts 63. EXIF says manufactured March 30, 2016. Bought at a retail camera store in St. Louis day 3 after release. Came with Firmware 1.0.

I seem to recall there was an earlier thread this year with pretty much the same question and the consensus from the replies was that Pentax DSLRs always seem to ship with firmware v1.0 even during later production runs.
