The season has started again and so here are some sports images to support my settings thread (Pentax K-1 settings best practises per scenario - your advice? - PentaxForums.com) with some images :

Nicely shot. The vignetting is a little too much for my taste, but that's just me.

Good shots with excellent timing!

Technology has come a long way ... 35 years ago, when I was at University, shooting show jumping events nearly every weekend during the season was my main source of income.
Equipment was a little less capable, Minolta X500 and motor winder (2 fps, ridiculous today), a Tokina 4/80-200 zoom and ISO400 film sensitivity ...
For a student the investment for 20 to 30 roles of film per weekend was significant. But it was great fun and was well worth the invest! Grandparents were more than willing to pay for some decend shots of their grandchildren!

Just for fun: here is a shot taken some years ago with my first DSLR, the 6MP Pentax IstDL2 with a MF Tokina 2.8/80-200.

Really nice shots. Nice example of how to implement capability of the K-1.

Great stuff @Beholder3! Care to share what AF mode you used? And whether you think more FPS would have helped?

Thank you all.

I used Zone AF with auto & auto priority in AF.C. I first wanted to use the DFA*, but the setup of the place was too widespread and I had to resort to the DFA 150-450 now.

Thanks! I've used this lens Tokina AT-X SD 80-200mm f2.8 Lens Reviews - Tokina Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Great value for money, at least on cameras with moderate resolution sensors. I have not tested it with my 24MP K3 as I have the DA 4/60-250. And unfortunately I don't have a K1

The riders have more issues with their horses focusing on static objects. Let's say the horse is in AF.S mode.

I call this photo "full stop".
