Third party lenses any time soon for K-1?

I think that a third party 15-30 or something like that would be very much appreciated since the Pentax one is so expensive. Are there any news?

No new FF wide-zooms. There are quite a few wide 3rd party primes around though for Pentax from SamYang (eg 14mm, 20mm, 24mm), Laowa (12mm, 15mm) and Irix (11mm, 15mm).

You could also just pano the D FA 28-105.

We just got the 15mm and 11mm lenses from Irix. Great alternatives.

Planning on using my tax return on the Rokinon 20mm f1.8 because I couldn't justify the 15-30mm either. If you get a good (centered) copy it's a pretty kickass lens!

Just doing a quick search at B&H they have 45 FF third party lenses available.

I really don't do wide angle shooting at all, I do have a Sigma 10-20 that I used twice in almost two years but from what I have read it seems like manual focus is prefered on the ultra wide lenses, why is that or am I wrong?

Look around for a Sigma 12-24 as a used or refurb. Also, the Tamron 10-24 will work from 13mm on with ff.

Don't let that be a barrier to you.

You should not let that limit your choices too much.
Especially for a UWA.

Most stuff shot with the UWA are shot stopped down and near infinity or carefully focused and composed anywany.

I'm going to repeat something I've heard before and should have listened to more; you have to focus on what is available now, either new or used, to get the job done. If what you need isn't available then you need to change to a different ecosystem.

I first heard this with alternative operating systems (BeOS, in my case) and not cameras, but I think it still applies 100%. There's good used glass, and there's new glass, and then there's just hopes & dreams. You have to shop the first two and leave the third for fun forum discussions.

BeOS...Poor Jean Louis Gassée. He really thought he was going to get his big payday by selling that incomplete mess to Apple. Then Steve Jobs stepped in and sold NeXT to Apple...

An alt-OS debate wasn't what I hoped for when I wrote what I wrote. Sorry to hear that you weren't able to accomplish whatever you hoped to do on Be.

Just how precise do you need an 11mm or 15mm to be that you need AF with it?

MF in lenses this wide is generally not a problem. Unless you're shooting closeups, the hyperfocal range should have you covered. The Irix lenses do have A-type mounts, so you don't have to meter the old fashioned way.

Such a lens already exists - the problem is that it has been discontinued for some time.
