It's time I came back....

Hi all. It's been a long time between drinks! I think the last time I posted was around 2012, how time flies......

Somewhere back in the fog during this period I jumped ship to Nikon as I really wanted a FF camera for landscapes. Low and behold Pentax finally released one.
I purchased a D800 which I believe used the same sensor as the K1?

Anyway, as I am now nearing retirement (less than 12 months to go!) I have been thinking about getting rid of my Nikon gear and moving back to my beloved Pentax. My first camera was a Pentax and it is fitting that my last should be one.
(It may not be my last but why let facts get in the way of a good story!)

I have taken some great shots with the D800 but have never felt comfortable using Nikon gear.
After looking at some shots from the K1 on here I was immediately draw once again to that "Pentax" look. To get to the point, I want one.

So the possible problem I have is selling my current setup for enough $$ to make the move. I have a D800, Nikkor 14-24 and a Sigma 85.
I will need, at the least, a K1 and a wide angle lens. So I hope this is doable.

So what recommendations are there for a suitable landscape lens for the K1 that is comparable to the Nikkor 14-24? I don't care if it's a Pentax, a zoom or a prime.

It's good to be back.

Pentax released a 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 f/2.8 trinity to go with their full-frame pride and joy, and also have a 150-450 for those who need the long end. The first two are Tamron rebadges, but very good ones. Hope you have your $$$$ saved if you go that way.

Otherwise, if you don't mind manual focus there are quite a few third-party lenses out there now, many of which have A contacts.

Would love that lens, but $2K plus would be a deal breaker. Maybe down the track but will just something good enough to get going with. With my previous Pentax DSLRs I used the Sigma 10-20 and was very happy with it.

The 15-30mm is a great landscape lens.

Welcome back! I seem to recall that Sigma may provide a service to change the mount on your 85 if its the same model that they sell for pentax. Might be worth checking.

Yeah would be a dry night Kerrowdown!

I only had the 85 for portraits, for which it is superb, but for landscapes not so good.

I found this lens after a search and I think this might be the one.
Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone Lens
Fits in with my budget so maybe I can do it.
My interest in landscapes is quite narrow so an ultra wide angle suits me down to the ground. I think I would be happy with that combo. Will set about advertising my gear tomorrow.

Beware decentering and other similar issues with the Irix. Same old story as seems to be told with anything from Samyang; the customer is the QA department. The wide lens situation in k-mount land isn't very enviable when you consider full-frame. If a K-1 fell from the sky into my lap the first thing I'd want to get used to is what it's like to use my DA15 in 1:1 crop mode. Not all that wide though.

There's some crop zooms that perform without vignetting or similar issues at certain focal lengths. Lots of threads about that. This is discussed on a constant basis around here.

Think about a (used) Pentax FA 20-35mm Wide-Angle zoom lens for the FF wide-angle optical end of your kit. Of course, check any reviews of it first.

20mm just ain't wide enough for me though I am sure it is a great lens. Looks like I can do the deal, just have to get enough for my Nikon gear. The Irix lens (Firefly version) looks the goods, great reviews and 110deg FOV. Would suit me. Now just can't wait to get my hands on that K1.

Sold my D800 and the 14-24 and an Australian camera shop has the K1 on special for only $2,159.96 AUD. Just one lens left to sell.
Just waiting for the funds to clear and will order the K1. Lens to follow. Happy days!

if you want the same quality like 14-24, should buy Pentax 15-30, especialy for best in class micro contrast. the IRIX/2,4 is good, better corner sharpness than Samyang 14/2,8, but IRIX prone to ugly flare. and Fireflay version has crappy plastic filter thread.

for portraits with AF is there only Sigma 85/1,4 EX DG HSM nonART and Pentax FA77/1,8 Limited.
D-FA100/2,8WR is too sharp and unify look, it is macro lens.

from my IRIX with flare

f2,4 !
