Good to see you again benjikan, your posts were different and always interesting.

When I was trying to decide whether or not to keep the K-5, the last model Benjikan used I went out and tried to do some bird photography with it. After a while using a K-3 it was just a major pain. Now with the K-1 which is even better than the K-3, I probably wouldn't use a K-5 unless it was the only camera available. So I can't say I'm in disagreement on the AF of the K-5. However, that's old news.

There should however be on Pentax camera for portraits , weddings etc. that has decent eye recognition. If memory serves me well, my Q-S1 has it. It's just not something I use much. It's obviously much more important for others.

Tess still uses her K-5 for landscape and our dogs, without issue.
Greater coverage would help indeed. :-)

JFYI...

Every single video we do are done with the Pentax K3...or earlier with the K1R

My wife is the video director.

That's especially true of the K-3. Smaller sensor, less crop room, I don't use the centre point more than half the time. If you are trying to frame tight, it's not the best. You need at least a row of focus points on the rule of thirds line. I Often want the eye on that line in the final crop. It would be nice to be able to shoot that way.

Ben used Pentax up until the K-3, but IIRC Ricoh dropped their sponsorship so he went to Nikon.
He used a K-5 when he had AF issues. He wouldn't have had issues with a K-3.

The K-5II introduced a much better AF system and was already available that the time he changed systems, but he had already made up his mind.

Many regarded his very vocal "exit" that threw a lot of mud at Pentax as unprofessional. Not to mention that shooting with the K-5 for years; a camera that is supposedly not able to obtain proper focus, could be regarded as unprofessional.

We all know that even with a K-5 one can take sharp shots. The K-5 II, and later Pentax models, just made it a lot more hassle free, obviating the need to re-calibrate for different lighting conditions.
