Pentax firmware 1.41 update - "improved stability for general performance" - really

There is a screenshot which offers some interesting insight into what Ricoh mean with "improved stability for general performance":
[Released on Website] Changes to V1.41
  • Compatible with Image Transmitter 2 (version 2.3.0)
  • Improved stability forgenera! Performance.
[Not released on Website]
  • Fixed unusual date and time when setting GPS time sync
  • Fixed a bug that the gain may overflow with CTE of WB
  • Fixed a problem that RAW+ was not displayed in the viewfinder when switching to RAW+ with the RAW/FX1 button
  • Fixed a bug that the through image might be overexposed when enlarging LV by more than 8 times
  • Fixed a bug that may stop moving when AF Operation is performed during zooming with HD DA 55-300 mm RE
  • Fixed a problem that the SR operates with a specific lens when LV shooting is performed at a higher shutter speed than 1/125
  • Fixed a bug that SR may not operate even SR is set to ON upon switch to LV mode immediately after startup
  • Fixed a problem that a slight blur occurred when the shutter speed was around 1/125 when using DA 12-24 lens
  • Other minor bugs fixed
Supports my usual practise to asap upgrade to the most recent firmware every time there is one.

BTW the latest 1.41 fw also allows basic USB tethering with pktriggercord now (you need to help the developer more in testing, though, if you are interested in that. No progress without investing own effort as always in life).

That is quite normal with service documentation. When I was working as repair technician in service center, for example BIOS/Micom releases that was shown as minor with 1 or 2 problems fixes in end client documentation , almost every time contained way more than 20 bug fixes that ware not publicized.

There is concept of internally reported (their QA) and externally reported (their Users). A lot of the internally reported ones do not surface in the public domain unless also reported by the external users.

Interesting indeed. You might like to add that this firmware is for the K-1.

Be interesting to see a full history of all the other 'un-listed' K-1 firmware changes from v1.0 to v1.41.

This is fascinating and provides some insight into how the "improved stability..." phrase translates into the real world of bug fixes. It would also be interesting to see what issues were "scrubbed" rather than fixed

Same.

I'm in IT and am very used to vendors' incomplete changelogs, the whole internal/external reporting thing.

The fixes extend to 'problems we didn't get to correct last time' and 'problems we didn't even know about last time'.

Yes. It is what was to be expected, but now we have some sort of confirmation and same example insight what is happening really.

I can only hope that they understand how much potential lies in software (firmware) for photography. With the digitization pretty much everything ends up with more focus on software and less focus on hardware.

Especially when the client tells you, "You know the bug you fixed in version X? We want it back"

Any news about a newer firmware ?

I just miss a few things, more important would be the ability to have the FOCUS POINT illuminated when pressing the AF button.
It's not a big deal but I thought it was looked upon by Ricoh.

That phrase is used on almost every firmware update that RIcoh/Pentax has released.

When the KP came they said that they would enable mechanical SR in movie mode on the K-1. What happened with that?

@DimC... a little bit confused. Doesn't this already happen. When the camera/K-1 focuses (shutter or Back-Button), of the 33 total points... the focus points used illuminate (in Red for me) within the viewfinder. On my K-5 it did something similar (also in Red), but just to a lower degree. Probably not understanding, as this feature appears there.

Hi,

I was refering to this thread here :
K1- Focus Point Illuminate when pressing AF button - PentaxForums.com

The behaviour is different in K1 than it is on K5 and K3, and that bugs me a lot when shooting in low light.
