Pentax is relatively new to me and ithe availability of new Tamron and Sigma lenses is disappointing. I have a Tamron 16-300mm on my Nikon D7100 and find it superbly versatile but unfortunately no Pentax version. I'd love a 150-600mm lens for my K3 II but selling my Sigma 150-600 nikon fit as I don't use the D7100 enough.

If we are talking APS-C lenses, the new Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM Contemporary may be of interest to you. It is available in K-mount.

Or indeed the Pentax smc Pentax-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED SDM lens, which is a Tamron re-badge.

I have the 18-300mm and find it a bit infuriating in comparison to the Tamron 16-300mm. The Tamron lets the user adjust the focus manually without switching from AF/MF, has a little bit more weather resistance and that extra 2mm at wide end is very useful. It also does better "macro". The focus on my 18-300mm has started to play up so I'm going to have to get it fixed.

Pentax is offering a very limited set of DFA lenses with K1 - but no hidden tricks, check out the lens lineup before you buy into the system. Add 50 and 85 DFA in the near future for FF and don't count on many new designs in the not so distant future. Lack of Tamron/Sigma alternatives as well as the small number of Pentax glass is frustrating sometimes, but you can check in 5 minutes what is available for Pentax and what not. With Tamron it is actually worse than described above. Pentax using Tamron glass in rebadges will also have an agreement that the new 70-200 and probably other glass like the upcoming 24-70 from Tamron will not be available for Pentax.

I have used the Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD IF Macro Lens extensively on my K-1 for landscapes, mostly at or near 200mm. Stopped down a couple of stops it's very sharp. I've made prints up to 20X30 that exhibit excellent sharpness (using pixel shift). It is a large heavy lens that needs to be used on a tripod for best results (it comes with a tripod collar), at least as used by me. For my use as a landscape lens when longer focal lengths are needed, as is frequent in the mountains where I live, it's been excellent and I recommend it. I've never used it as a macro lens so can't comment on that.

Thanks everyone! I received my K1 Thursday evening and spent a few hours fine focus adjusting on my lenses last night, My FA77, FA43 and FA31 only need none to slight front focus adjustment. The Tamron 70-200 was another story, like on my K3, I have to make +10 adjustment and still only get sharp focus at the -1 to -1.5

That's out of spec, then ... that should be returned to point of purchase.

Not long ago?

Why don't you PM the seller?

You should still be able to return it, minus postage I guess.

I test all purchases new or used for decentreing and front/back focus when I get them home, and before I discard the packaging.

I purchased it about 10 months ago to replace a DA*50-135 I gave to my daughter. The seller stated it worked ok on K1, I was going to use it on my K3 and when I noticed back focus problems with that camera, I just assumed it was my K3 (used also)

Took the K1 and Tamron out last weekend to get my feet wet. I will not post any photos, to many professionals that will bash me for not following all the photographic protocols and rules. I had fun and was not disappointed with my first outing results. Ready for my vacation trip to Arlington Virginia and Washington week after next

Damn, we are getting bored waiting around for someone to bash. I thought we had you all lined up.

I was coming so hard I thought I might be in danger of a boarding penalty. ( Not more than three steps before you drive some hapless hockey player into the boards.)
