Tamron 70-200 f2.8 FF ???

Hi can someone tell me if the Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD IF Macro Lens will work on the Pentax K1? I have view most all the images posted on the site and have not seen any taken with this leans. I own this lens along with the Tamron 90mm macro, FA31, FA43 DA*55 and Fa77 and 20 more crop lenses. i am pondering on purchasing the K1 and would like not to have to purchase DFA lenses at this time and make what i own work.

I have the Tamron 70-200mm and the 90mm Macro and use them on my K1. They will work just fine for you if you upgrade to the K1. If you want to cover the standard zoom range without forking over the price of the new 24-70mm, the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 also works well and is comparatively quite cheap. For my purely hobbyist purposes they work great and haven't disappointed in terms of image quality.

Just came to ask about a short zoom for the K-1 and voila... this thread was here!

The Tamron lens is a wonderful optic. It works great on my K1. So much so that I simply cannot justify paying almost 2.5X more for the Pentax version. Here is a sample from last year that I posted on another thread..

The Tamron 70-200 F2.8 is a great lens. I have it and use it regularly on k1.

Any thoughts on the 28-75 on K1?

I second that thought! I have not used my Tammy70-200 2.8 often, but have found it impressive. It may also be one of the best value lenses out there anywhere.

Just a pop-shot of my oldest grandson as I was playing with the 70-200 on the K1 a while back....

From what I've read it is soft in the corners, even when stopping down to F8, has decent center sharpness, it has a noticable vignette, doesn't have the best control over harsh lighting conditions, and is kind of just ok.

From what I have experienced, it was fantastic on my apsc bodies though the 28mm wide end often wasn't wide enough, and I did manage to ruin some pictures with some ugly ghosting in direct sunlit pictures . On my K1, I really love the pictures that come out of it. I happen to like a slight vignette so I have no complaints there. The corners are a bit soft, but for what I do they are good enough. A lot of my shots are candid pics of my kids so they are usually closer to the center, and I like to have the background blurred so corners are soft anyway. Maybe some day I will save up for a the 24-70mm, but probably not unless I decide to become a wedding photographer. I would rather save up for some ltd primes.

Basically on FF you probably won't be using it as your go to landscape lens, but for people pictures where the subject is generally not in the corners, it does a good job. And for the price, well, personally I would rather have a good enough zoom, and some great primes.

I recognize others may not agree, and I have read the reviews on the DFA 24-70 and it is better, but for me the Tamron 28-75mm fits my purpose and budget, and I have taken some pics with it that I really like.

Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 on the Pentax K-1

I also use the Tamron 28-75mm lens on my K-1. It is my go-to lens when shooting outdoor events in the daylight. I am fine with the image quality I get. I have attached a few of the pix I have taken with the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens.

I have been contemplating on that Tamron 70-200 macro screw drive lens for Pentax for some time. Price is good. I have K-1 and wanted to get my first 70-200. But boy, is Pentax choice in this regard limited. You have legacy screw drives expensive and hard to find, Tamron screw drive, Sigma HSM and new Pentax DFA. Tamron seems to be great optically and is macro, but functionality wise seems to be a disaster due to manual focus clutch. It's screw drive which was maybe fine in 2008 when it was released. But in 2017, give me a break. But price is great. New Pentax DFA is expensive which is understandable for top quality glass from all manufacturers but also uber heavy. There is a new modern Tamron G2 which has great price and quality, less expensive than Pentax and lighter but not in Pentax mount. And that is a real killer. I'd buy one in a heartbeat but unluckily we Pentaxians can't enjoy the benefits of modern, great price, 3rd part high quality autofocus glass like Canon and Nikon users. What a shame and unfortunate times for Pentaxians. When I got into Pentax at least Sigma was with us but now even they abandoned us. Hopefully these 3rd parties will come back at one moment.
