Good advice, even though my soon to be wife is used to that: our last trip to Iceland really put our relationship to test ( ) but it passed with flying colors...

Congratulations on your Honeymoon!

That's quite a ride, depending on how many stops you plan on doing. I live in Quebec city so if you need pointers for that city (or others along the way) feel free to ask.

I had to think for a bit about "St-Lorenzo"...

As for camera stores, you received good advice. I'll add that CameraCanada is my favourite, the yare very helpful, honest, and have good prices.
Thanx, that's good to know!

We are taking our time, so it's 13 full days driving from Toronto, up north to Saguenay and Tadoussac (so what's the correct name for the bay?) and back to Toronto, afterwards we'll fly to Nashville for August 21st eclipse which I hope to capture.

Our route is Toronto > Belleville > Montreal > Lac Taureau > Wendake > Saguenay > Malbaie > Quebec > Montreal > Toronto.

Any good places to shoot interesting landscape and wildlife pics (and whatever you consider worth seeing and shooting)?

13 days there and back is not my definition of "taking your time" That's 10 places in 13 days! You could spend several days in Toronto, Montréal and Québec easily.

Saguenay is the name of the river and its fjord when it reaches the St-Laurent river. Tadoussac is the name of a beautiful village where the fjord is located. It's a good place to walk along the river, book a wahles watching cruise, etc. Be warned that to cross the fjord to reach Tadoussac when coming from Quebec/La Malbaie, you have to take a ferry and the wait can be long.

In Quebec, there is a LOT to see. The Old Town is wonderful to spend a day exploring, the port also, there are superb restaurants, you can go to the island of Orleans for a more rural feel (the wineries, cider houses, chocolate stores are wonderful, plus a few restaurants open temporary sports there. Look for Panache Mobile, a sure bet). The Montmorency waterfalls are also worth a visit. There are a few museums, one of Arts located near a large park, one covering modern topics in the old Town. the Bois de Coulonge is another superb park. You can visit the Promenade de Champlain, a beautiful boardwalk along the St-Laurent. There are excellent shopping centers if you're into that sort of things. The city Observatory on the top of our tallest building is also nice, you can also visit the parliament, etc. You can take the bridges or ferry across the river and see a beautiful sunset over the Old Town from there. There's really a lot to do.

The same could be said of Montréal, which does not have the beauty of Quebec, but has a more dynamic nightlife, great restaurants, several museums, a lot to see and to do. The same can be said of Toronto.

Wendake is in a suburb of Quebec city, it's interesting but don't plan on spending too long there.

La Malbaie is another nice village, but Baie St-Paul is close and more beautiful. There's a huge and impressive hotel/castle/casino at La Malbaie however.

Belleville and Lac Taureau, I have no opinion.

I hope I answered some of your questions!

My opinion of Belleville would be "what the heck?" I hope it's because of it's location just out of Toronto, but , it's an hour's drive from Toronto. It's truly a great place to drive through, if you don't get off the 401. Toronto to Montreal is an easy drive... just saying.

There's the Thousand Islands just east of Kingston, with Fort Henry at Kingston if you are interested in seeing the Redcoats on parade. There's the Canadian Airforce museum at Trenton.

For wildlife, it may be a bit tougher than you are anticipating. We have a lot of wilderness here. That means the animals you want to see have lots of places to go, where you aren't. They prefer those kinds of places.

That being said, I'm not sure you are understanding the scale of the country. It's big.

If the buyer is in a province with HST, the seller collects HST at the rate of the buyer's province. I'm in Ontario, anything I buy from a Canadian camera store gets Ontario's 13% HST rate applied to it, no matter if the seller is in Ontario, or Alberta.

I agree, photoprice.ca is an awesome resource
As we do not have HST in Quebec , if I buy from most seller who do not have a physical presence in Quebec, we pay only GST.

I bought my K-1 at Henry's. I'm happy with their service. Good company in my experience.

Downtown Camera has Pentax in stock. I compared a K1 and KP side by side in their store about two weeks ago.

If the item is in-stock in the store then Henry's is terrific. Beware of their special order process. I ordered 3 Limited's through them. 9+ weeks was their norm. Two Years ago I ordered the HD DA 70 two months prior to Christmas. A week before Christmas they couldn't give me a status update other to say the item was still on order. I emailed Pentax Canada directly with my information and order details only to find out my order had been sent to them 4 weeks after I had paid for it in full at Henry's. I'm not sure if Henry's order system is archaic or their performance is lacklustre.

Since that time I have been ordering Pentax lenses from Newfoundland Camera. Their time from order to arrival is 3-4 weeks with items coming from the Pentax warehouse in the Philippines.

Personally when I shell out $750 up front for a special order, I expect the merchant to submit the order to the manufacturer within 24 hours. Is that unreasonable?

That's long drive... Hope you will enjoy it!

In terms of Toronto there is plenty of photo opportunities like (to mention few here):
- visit to Toronto Islands from where you will have fantastic view of Toronto
- Casa Loma
- Historic Distillery District

around Toronto...
- Niagara Falls (on the way there you can stop by old abandoned ship wreck but not much to see there)
- Niagara on the Lake (from Niagara Falls to Niagara on the Lake you will pass by multiple wineries)
- Blue Mountains and Bruce Peninsula National Park

instead of Belleville it is better to stop by in Brockville or Gananoque and get Thousand Islands tour.
While passing worth driving through is Long Sault Parkway.

In Montreal you will find plenty of photo opportunities along the Sherbrooke Street or in the Old Port of Montreal which just finished some reconstruction.
Climb up the Mont-Royal only if you are in very good physical condition (from Rue Peel take the stairs - NOT RECOMMENDED) but better is to drive up to Chalet du Mont-Royal from where you will have fantastic view of Montreal (best in the evening).

In Quebec City I think that @bdery he will be the expert but the downtown of old Quebec is amazing and do not miss to stop by at Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

Lac Taureau is amazing but make sure you have GPS and do not worry about macadam road, this is the right way... Make sure that you look when you close by to your right as you will miss it (just parking is there but from there you will see the hotel - Auberge Du Lac Taureau). It is amazing there and just to relax. By the way when you pass through Saint-Michel-des-Saints stop at Boulangerie St-Michel Enr. Amazing croissants and other stuff.

and to finish for today, here is picture taken at Lac Taureau...

Have an amazing trip!

Just tell your wife that you want 6 kids and it would be cool to have your first one in 9 months. She will suddenly want to go picture taking with you.............A lot!

After almost 41 years of marriage you learn a few tricks along the way. I'm sure they do too.

I ordered a K-1, a 28-105 a light meter...all came within 2-3 weeks. I think your long delivery times are more than mine, due to your location in Newfoundland. We live in Western Canada and one of our kids lives in NL. When we send packages it doesn't take all that long to get to say...Halifax...but then there's the ferry crossing to NL and the long delivery time once in NL. We have been surprised at how long it takes for packages to get to Newfoundland. We follow our package journey via the Canada Post tracking system and have seen that the extra time to get to NL...is from the Maritimes to NL.

But I agree 9 + weeks is quite excessive. I think Henry s along with other camera stores mostly special order from Pentax Canada. I don't know where the holdup is ...in that routing.

If Henry's is like many other Canadian retailers, they place their orders only once a month, at least that's what retailers have told me when asking them to special order a pair of shoes (uncommon width) or camera equipment. If you place your order with the retailer the day after the retailer has placed its order with the distributor, then your order will be sitting around for a month until the next order is placed with the distributor. Before the age of internet shopping, retailers would sometimes take 3 months just to tell me that the manufacturer was out of stock.

No.

I got my K-1 in less than a month, from in-stock at Henry's Toronto. When I did my huge completion-buy of the DA Limited lenses (15, 21, 70 - yes, I got greedy) a couple of Christmases back, I ordered from B&H because price comparisons were good even coming over the border. They were really, REALLY fast, but I try not to order from the US unless I absolutely can't find it in Canada at an anywhere near competitive price.

This explains why I don't own a 15 ltd. When they were closing out the SMC and bringing in the HD lenses, I saw an SMC at Henry's at reduced price. They had two in stock. I found the lens listed at Aden camera for $49 less. I ordered from Aden phoned back two weeks later wondering where my lens was, and was informed that they couldn't supply the lens. ( I have no idea when they planned to inform me of this.) I went back to the Henry's website and their two lenses were sold. I still don't own a 15 ltd.

These things can affect your life.

For La Malbaie, I agree with BDery that unless you're planning to visit the casino it's probably more interesting to go right to Baie St-Paul. If you're in landscape photography, the Parc National des Hautes-Gorges is an amazing place in this area, but you need to plan a full day of hiking with some steep climbs or kayaking/canoing on the river. The Parc des Grands-Jardins is also a great place for landscape picture, although not as much as Hautes-Gorges. But the trails are way more easier and the park itself is nearer to Baie St-Paul or Quebec City (about a 1.5 hour drive from Quebec City or half an hour from Baie-St-Paul or La Malbaie).

About 45 min. north of Quebec City, there's the Parc National de la Rivière-Jacques-Cartier which is also an excellent location for landscape photography. Since it's so near and accesible from the city, it makes for an enjoyable day trip from Quebec City without too much driving, most of it on the highway instead of small backcountry roads. This park is somewhat similar to the Parc des Hautes-Gorges, but with less majestic vistas. But it's still a nice place to go to have a feeling of what most of the country looks like: forest, lakes and rivers.

About halfway on the road between Baie St-Paul and Quebec City there's the Réserve du Cap-Tourmente that is a great place for birding, particularly in spring and fall. It's much calmer during summer months but could make for a nice 1-2 hours stop on your road and some good shots with a bit of luck.

In any of those place, don't forget to bring a bottle of insect repellent. If not, you will quickly realize that, contrary to popular belief, man isn't the top predator on earth.
