K-1 file folder bug

As a proud user of Pentax K-1 I am surprised nobody noticed a serious bug in the current K-1 firmware. In succession of a big photo-shooting session the camera makes over and over new file folders, sometimes after 5-10 or less shots. Some of them contain even 0 pictures ! Who knows a technique, that could change this conduct of the K-1 ? Maybe this is a cause for another firmware update ???

Sounds very strange. Have you tried formatting the card, and does the issue occur with other cards as well?

What do you have the file/folder naming and card handling set to?

If it was a bug it would have been reported by many folks. Obviously a fault of your camera or possibly card combination. Send it in for repair.

Yes, it occurs with all my SD-cards (Lexar and Sandisk, it occurs to both. Formatting the cards didn'tīt help). It has to be a software problem, I donīt think it could be a camera fault (it wouldn'tīt write the files to the cards at all).

Never removed the card throughout the session ! Card handling is set to : continuous file naming. That has nothing in common with the creation of file folders.

Have you tried going into the main menu and resetting all options, and then doing the same with custom settings? Remove the battery too. And you could always re-flash the firmware. You're at 1.41, right? You can download the 1.30 version from the Pentax/Ricoh UK site if you want to try going backwards:

Never seen this happen, and from time-to-time I shoot several thousand K-1 images in one session.

How have you set your folder name and file name settings?

One possibility is that your folder creation is being impacted by other camera settings - like fluctuations in your camera clock's date and time caused by camera battery problems, or other factors.

One of these factors may be that your date and time settings, and folder creation, can be impacted by your GPS settings - eg for trip logging and folder creation, not to mention time synchronization. Turn off your GPS and clear all your GPS settings to the defaults. See if that makes a difference.

Yes, yes yes ! It was the GPS. I think now it makes a new folder everytime one changes the GPS-address and writes new files there. There is no mention about this in the manual ! Thanks for the idea !
