Have you any thoughts about how durable the silver color may be? Can you tell what material - paint, plastic, metal?

Ah I was discussing the silver one getting listed on their eBay store for $2799 with a further 20% off using an eBay voucher last night at the price watch thread! I'm not sure if it's the exact same package as the one from the Pentax web store - I don't see any mentions of the strap on their eBay listing.

It looks like silver-colored high impact plastic to me... same as the regular K-1. Not sure how durable it is, and don't intend to find out!

I have one as well. Concur with jcdoss, seems like silver high-impact plastic. I put my Sigma 70-200 on there, despite known clearance issues. It put the expected linear dent in the front plastic, the bottom of which is silver. It’s certainly not paint. I am not doing any further experimentation on the finish, so don’t ask!

Thanks! That is enough! It appears that it must be the same material as the black one so it should be fairly durable but may show dings more clearly.

I'm interested to know if somehow Pentax fixed the shutter shock problem with this 'new' version - or maybe I'm just a black K-1 user with bad lucks

I'm curious to know if anyone knows any way (besides super glue) to get the Special Edition hotshoe cap to stay on securely? It's slipped off a couple times already, and I thought it was gone for good yesterday. Luckily I found it in a different bag.
