Originally posted by normhead After being convinced this was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and thinking it might be my dream camera, I have to say... I was had. Good thing i didn't buy one. Well at it's price, buying one was never an issue. but it's still a good thing.
Well, look at the today prices in my country (Romania) for all 3 systems which still makes DSLRs: Pentax, Canon and Nikon. The cameras are:
- Pentax K1
- Canon 5D Mark IV
- Nikon D850
The lenses are the f2.8 zooms from them (the most 3 used zoom lenses).
I converted the prices in euro and in US dollars in order for people to make some comparations.
If I have to start from zero and considering that I'm not at all into landscapes, I will still pick Canon over the others. 5D Mark IV gives me good enough resolution, good ISO capabilities, very good tracking capabilities, 7fps and a lot of options when comes to variety of lenses, third party support (flashes and lenses), huge second hand market, renting options, good service.
If I were a landscape photographer, Pentax K1 would have been my first choice without a blink of an eye, even if all the facilities that I have with Canon (third party support, second hand market, etc.) are missing when comes to Pentax.
What is realy hard for me is to consider D850, even if it looks like an impressive camera on paper. The lenses in general are also more expensive for Nikon. For resolution and better dynamic range I would have to pay:
- 1971$ more than I would have to pay for 5D Mark IV
- 5082$ more than I would have to pay for K1
