Olympus is doing full res files, pretty sure of it (i sold the camera so I can't check right now). Panasonic was doing the 4k thing, and now 6k
Yes, I believe many recent Olympus and Panasonic bodies can do bracketing and/or focus stacking using full-resolution bursts, and I said above. Then I mentioned, in addition, the neat 4k/6k focus stacking thingamajig.

I wish K-1 could do that. not sure why (I don't shoot macro), but i want it Seriously though, i'd rather like to have the LiveComp mode from Oly bodies, it made star trails much easier to do lol.
I just left the camera here for about 45 minutes, and came back to this one - trails | Timur Dzhambinov | Flickr

The author of the Digital Photo Pro article that I quoted in my original post, named Adam Woodworth, used, to quote, "..... Helicon Focus, a software program that's dedicated to focus stacking." in the article. He also discussed using layers in photoshop and blending them for this purpose. Btw, he did not say that the three cameras he named as having in camera focus stacking was an all inclusive list but did not name any others. Since he was apparently incorrect about the K-1 it seems there are only two .

There's more rather than less. Some M43 bodies as old as Olympus Em1 can do it.

Thought Pentax would offer focusing bracketing with af lenses by now. Seems a natural fit with all the other specialized features they offer like Composition Adjust, Astro Tracer, multiple exposure, etc. Can't think of any technical impediment stopping implementation of focus bracketing.

Perhaps Pentax isn't interested in pursuing this. It's possible they'd have to pay another company royalties and don't think the additional sales would justify the expense. Sure would be handy on the K-1 mkIII.
Thanks,
barondla

Some Canon bodies can use Magic Lantern to get some very nice focus bracketing modes. Focus bracketing included in D850 is taken further in Z7 (&6?) in a way that camera display an estimate of the end result before taking the exposures.

It seems that there are people who made an app with the Pentax K1 developer kit, in that app they can do focus bracketing and/of stacking with the Pentax K1. So the hardware should be capable of doing this, pitty that Pentax doesn't do the effort to implement this in their software of the K1 and MII.

Who? When? Where? This is the first mention of this development I have seen.

Wifi commander for Pentax , by Andrea K. You can define focus points in live view and then run the focus+exposure sequence and transfer images wirelessly.

Thanks. I will take a look at Wifi Commander. I had assumed it was just for phone control of picture taking. Looks like it is much more.

Wifi commander doesn't have a focus stacking feature per se. But recording of exposure sequence can be used for focus stacking. I remember focus stacking was used by Andrea K as demo for what Wifi commander can do.

So the separate photos generated by WiFi Commander would then be stacked in software that does stacking. Right?

I used the Ricoh SDK and added a function to the CLI program to take a series of shots, changing the focus point each time. I enter the number of steps I want, both before (stepsFront) and after (stepsBack) the natural focus point, and the size of the steps (stepSize) and then call the functions to perform the sequence:

First focus normally with the Focus() function

Call StartLiveView()
Call AdjustFocus() to move the focus stepsFront * stepSize so the focus is at the start of the desired range

Then loop over the range
{

CaptureWithoutFocus
AdjustFocus stepSize
}
Stop LiveView

The AdjustFocus function only works in Live View.
It works pretty well. I stack the shots with Zerene.

I use SilkyPix Developer Studio Pro 10 for most of my post processing. It focus stacks pretty nice. For fun I tried it hand held on a windy day while taking some shots of flowers in a pot. Got some interesting results. Might as well take advantage of being old and shaky.
