43mm is a bit more attractive focal than ~50mm. I have now used 35mm Macro with KP for ~2.5 months extensively and I can say that I liked 43mm more with K-1. Those few mm give a tiny bit more space for the scene to breathe without wide angle distortion or telephoto compression. And besides, 43mm ltd looks cute like 35mm macro ltd.

I'll second Adam's comment about the SSD drive . My 7 year old i7 quad core was starting to feel like it was slowing down with the 36MB files, but it was all about how slow the original drive was. A 524 Gb SSD drive completely solved that problem.

Paid?!!!,

I thought you shot for free because of the subject matter....which most are of the same quality, Sir.

I liked the FA43 on the K-3II, I loved it with the MZ-S (Perfect combo BTW) and I love it with the K-1....

Its just the best walk around lens, if it had WR then it would be perfect!

It's kind of half and half at this point. I've built up a decent network of models now that a number of companies like to utilize from time to time. I also get a fair number of requests for family/couples portraits as well as the occasional event. A lot of those shots I don't share.

FA 43mm F1.9 is just awesome, it's gem on the K-1. Gives very nice pictures with 3D effect. My favourite lens for FF.

My journey with the trio of FA Limited lenses have been: 31 -> 77 -> 43

The 43 was the most apprehensive buy considering I had no interest in that focal length and it was deemed the weakest of the three. That was on the K5. Since upgrading to the K1, I have found the 43 to be my most used lens. It's seriously a great combination. I feel if I had used it on the K5, I wouldn't have liked it as much, but for the K1, I feel it's a must have,

I had the 43 for a while and I can't say anything negative about it other than the loud AF. IQ wise it is in the ballpark of the newer star lenses. But I find the DA*55 to have a richer and smoother rendering that is more pleasant. Unfortunately it vignettes in some situations on FF and the difference between 43 and 55 is noticeable. My plan is to go for the upcoming DFA*50 1.4 hoping that it has some great colour and contrast replacing both the 43 and 55.

Is anyone using the 43mm on a K1?
Since I got the 43 last summer, I've probably used almost as much as my main walkaround zoom. I sometimes leave home with just the 43, something I never did with any other lens before.

Also, does anyone find the really large files a pain to work with?
I was baffled by them at first, but now when I use the camera in crop mode, I find I wish for more resolution.

You'll get used to 36MP files, just make sure that you have enough storage space and a computer that's not too old (or slow). SSDs really help.
+1^
But you do have to decide if your base system is good enough. i7s are really nice for editing.

There is a nice video from Kai W from a month ago on YouTube: "Is the 35mm or 50mm the best focal length? Neither, because the 40mm could be the answer for a do-it-all prime lens."

At one point he's talking about how Pentax nailed the focal length of the 43 and how they are being so pedantic and geeky Lucky us, eh? Can't wait to test it on my K1

Old thread - but the 43mm is still most often found on the K1. Even when it is the worst lens for the job!

Love the 43mm on the K1 II. It has a very nice and smooth bokeh when shooting at wide apertures. Just took these pics yesterday.

I bought my 43 for my LX way before I bought a K-1. Having used the M40/2.8 and Voightlander 40/1.4 (Leica M) I knew it was better for me than 50mm.

I bought the K-1 just to use this lens on FF digital.
