Sigma lens scratches on K1

Please don't "yell"at me! I know this topic is on this forum somewhere, but I can't find it. I've recently purchased a Pentax k1. It's an amazing camera. I have a Sigma 150-500mm that I use for eagles. I've been reading about Sigma lenses scratching the camera. I've been in contact with Sigma repair. They will fix the lens (for free), if I mail it to them. He told me that the lens will not harm the internal workings of the camera. It's just a cosmetic scratch on the exterior. I know some of you have had this issue with your lenses, or I wouldn't have read about it! Is it worth sending it back if it's just cosmetic? I wouldn't want to risk using the lens if it's more than that. But, I also don't want to risk losing or damaging my lens in shipment. Opinions please?

Here's a picture of the scratch you'd get:

If you don't mind this, then keep the lens as is.

Personally I'd send the lens in though. Insure the shipment and then you'll be covered

I had my Sigma 50-500 modified for the K-1. The scratch wasn't a concern but I think they also did another adjustment and maybe lens firmware.

It was easy for me because I live 20 minutes away from their service center. I emailed them, confirmed it could be done walk-in, and I only waited 30 minutes. Exemplary service; they promptly respond to emails and phone calls.

I sent my 150-500 in for the update. I paid the shipping to them and they paid the return shipping. The customer initiates the work order, sends the lens in, it is repaired and is sent back. Supposedly there was a firmware update also. I packed the lens in its original case and box, front and rear caps on, enclosed in shipping box with packing materials around it. I used Fedex. It only took a few days. If they send you an e-mail invoice for repairs other than the update, just let them know what you want done (other than the update or not). The update for the K-1 was free other than the shipping (send in) for me.

Honestly, keep the lens as is, don't risk sending it in.
I've used my un-modified 150 500mm on my K-1, which caused the tiniest of silver marking, only cosmetic.
No damage to the camera what so ever.
Happy shooting mate you're going to be so happy with the images off this combination.
