Regrettably this is pretty accurate, the black finish on the FA limited lenses does scratch up badly. The black Laquer used on Leica lenses is similar. it scuffs and scratches, but I can't say I have ever bought a lens with resale value in mind.

I'm very happy with my black K-1 and silver FA Limiteds.

The FA Limiteds are special lenses and I personally feel that the black versions resemble other standard lenses much more than the silver versions. If you want to be discreet and like a homogeneous look then black is the right choice. If you want to celebrate the uniqueness of the FA Limiteds, silver is better (IMHO).

Years ago I owned a K-3 Prestige Edition and a FA 43 Ltd. in silver. The colors of the plastic camera body and the metal parts of the lens were different, not so pretty -- the lens was a bit more yellowish. Maybe other recent camera models are different.

With a black camera both colours will look very nice. The FA 77 is a very recommended lens!

In some special situations (studio) the lower reflections of the black version at the photographed object may be a small advantage. This is the reason why most of the lenses are black.

personally If there is a price difference, and I have see cases where there is

I choose the cheaper

otherwise I have all black cameras and lenses

the 77mm limited is a very " respected " lens

however owning a Pentax Limited lens may be habit forming

and you might want more

the limiteds do they live up to the reputation and why - Page 23 - PentaxForums.com

I just bought a silver 43mm because that's what was available used in my area. It's for use mainly on my black K-3 and I can confirm that silver lens + black camera = ugly.

Doesn't affect the images they take of course.

I got the 43 in silver because I originally got it to use with a film Pentax as Kodachrome film was winding down. I like the black lenses more on the black DSLRs, though.

I think you may have the equation wrong It's: silver lens + black camera = quirky/unusable/interesting/different.
I have a K3 and a silver 20-40 and I'm strangely fond of it's appearance. This comes from a person who normally tries to be inconspicuous and drives a beaten up old Skoda.

Ahem... it's a K. Only the best will do for Digitalis....

---------- Post added 25-03-20 at 07:52 PM ----------

I add a black hood (if possible) on silver lenses to visually tie it in to the camera.
