When the K1 was released, some users said the K1 had superior AF compared to K3, I always found the K3 was more responsive than K1 with the same lenses. I see the "accelerator" addon chip as an image pre-processor that take some computing load off the main processor, giving it bit more juice for AF tracking in burst mode. The K1 II gets the AF tracking capability of the KP and K70. It is very plausible that the K1 II will have better AF than the K1.
I actually have said also that K-1 has better focus than K-3, and I did notice that RGB sensor worked better. I really could track down and keep focus when it recogniced color difference. K-3 was waaaaaay better than K-7 that I had before it. Let’s see, it might be because of that accelerator chip is making some room for other functions, and/or they really revamped calculating algorithms(or something similar with woodoo) and they made it more efficient.

Last photo in the gallery: "DFA 24-70 / 1 / 400s to f / 5.0, ISO 320 - Photo taken without looking"

That's a new cool feature!

A sort of pentaxforums.com for the francophone world. Apparently they get goodies early over there, and they talk about it. In French of course.

If they fix af inconsistencies with the update, I'd consider that money well spent. I think AF was the only real thing that bugs me after almost 2 years with the camera. Well, I dunno if anything is wrong with my af unit, my K-1 is at Precision now for some tune ups (mentioned af being very inconsistent). Looking forward to a review in English, although I do appreciate to have any info, even in a language that I do not speak unfortunately

This kind of lizard brain?

If you require better AF tracking in low-light situations, I think the answer is pretty clear. That ability looks like sealing the deal for me, not that I follow zig-zagging bicycles in dimly-lit velodromes.

It’ll be interesting to get some impressions from kenspo, as he works often in variable indoor lighting conditions, with moving subjects.

Until we have side by side comparisons of the AF with clear evidence of improvements I’m going to file these claims under placebo. I’ve seen way to many “the AF feels snappier now” after every firmware upgrade, even when no AF functions are mentioned in the firmware description, to just go by feel.

It will be interesting to see these measurements done by someone who knows what they are doing. It sure is true that there is tendency of go with the ’feeling’ when you have new shiny thing.

This review contains numerical comparisons, but of what in the author’s view is the proportion of successful AF tracking shots, and he compares other Pentax bodies (including the K-1) and the Nikon D810. I assume from this that you want to see the actual photos. I don’t recall reading any “feels snappier” comments, but correct me if I missed them.

Feels snappier = camera slaps your face with a large trout instead of tiny goldfish.

it does compare the k1 mk2 to the speeds of Canon 5DS and that like. From what I could read. saying it shows more confirmations and faster response. Both tracking and S-AF

I read on a Norwegian blog that it is a codfish. Trout are for whimps.
