You could always invest in a pile of ND filters or move within one of the Polar Circles.

Well, just wait about anothe 5 billion years and that problem will go away. Permanently.
There will be some special skies in the leadup to that

Assuming there's anyone left to witness it, the night sky will be fabulous as Andromeda and the Milky Way intersect in 4 billion years. Direct collisions between stars are rare but Earth might get bombarded by disturbed comets.

Then there's the red giant sun at your 5 billion mark. Sunrise and sunset will be a lot different.

Shall this thread be retitled "Why I won't buy a K-1 II?"

How does on take pictures where there are shadows?
Here's how to simulate night using Manual mode: ISO 100, 1/8000 shutter, f/22 or smaller. Shoot raw and reduce exposure a few stops in your processing software.

If you prefer to shoot in auto modes, leave the lens cap on.

I hate t be the bearer of bad news but the problem is more serious than you might realise - the same phenomenon unprecedentedly occurred in England today

As we move closer to June 21/22 that phenomenon begins earlier and ends later with each passing day, restricting shooting time to 5:30am-6:00am and 7:30pm-8:00pm.

Ricoh needs to include a warning about this in the K-1 II manual. People need to be aware of the peril.

Doesn't work. Sun shines 24/7 there in the summer. Doesn't even get dim.

Anchorage isn't far enough north, try Utqiaġvik (Inupiaq: [ut.qe.ɑʁ.βik] uut-kee-YAH-vik),commonly known by its former name Barrow

If only there was a better solution!

It's really too bad that photographers don't have some special room with very dim or no lighting.......

It was already tried (not by me) and squashed pretty quick. I just wanted a fun post. K1-II postings are getting way too serious. It they feel the need, the moderators can squash this thread whenever they want. Hopefully it just brought a few smiles to some people.

It has been so cold, dark and dreary here in the northeast this spring that the appearance of the big glowing disc caused system happiness overload. Sort of like the first times the cows are let out of the barn after being cooped up all winter. Something every city slicker should see.

FWIW, this has been the coldest spring since 1975. What is funny, is that back then all the "experts" were predicting that man made pollutants were going to cause another Ice Age by the mid 1990's. Earliest 2ist Century at the latest. Maybe they were right.
