I found it hard to find portions of the image which supported the notion that there is detail loss.

The fact that most areas look as detailed as those of the competitors just with much less chroma noise seems to be immaterial to DPReview's overall decision.

The D850 shows substandard JPG processing at high ISO settings (at least in a portion of the published images), yet isn't criticised for "smearing detail" in JPGs. On the contrary, the JPG processing is said to be improved compared to the D810. I hope DPReview will improve on their current lack of consistent criticism.
I also took a look around various portions of the RAW images in the central 1/3rd of the frame at ISO 100 for maximum detail, then at ISO 1600-12800 and I agree 100%. The colored string looks a little less detailed than the K-1, but it's more of a contrast issue than any actual reduction of details. Hilariously, the K-1 and K-1 II both look better than the A7R3 and match the D850 in most areas of the image at any ISO from 100-12800 (again central 1/3 only).

Yes, this really what's funny about this part of the review. The two K-1 versions are arguably better image quality than cameras costing 50% more.

Class A I am still not following the need to turn off the Accelerator Unit.
Here are my three reasons:
  1. Shut up DPReview: As soon as the "accelerator" processing becomes optional, any disputes about image degradation disappear. DPReview would have to update the score for the K-1 II once again.
  2. Free Choice: Resorting to the K-1 means not getting the improved AF-C behaviour and not getting the hand-held "Pixel Shift". Also, the K-1 will only remain an alternative for a limited time. At some point in time, only the K-1 II will be available for purchase. Some shooters won't like that as they prefer their own ways of removing noise.
  3. Future Choice: Decisions for the K-1 II only will have limited impact. However, if we cannot convince Ricoh that we need pure RAW files right now, chances are that future Pentax DSLRs will also apply forced RAW NR. I can sympathise with those that prefer the results from the K-1 II over those of the K-1, but I side with those that demand pure RAW files (for all sorts of good reasons).
