Now, What about lenses?
I picked up this 50mm macro used for $200 CAD, in decent shape. Kind of an ugly lens but it takes nice photos and it's handy to have a macro. I will be getting the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art. That is about as wide as I need for now, but on the other end I do want a 70-200 2.8 and think I might try the Tamron even though the K-mount model is older. I am a bit hesitant about the Pentax-D FA* 70-200 2.8 partly because of cost but mainly because I have had trouble finding comprehensive, independent reviews of its performance. I will post about this in the lens subforum soon to ask if I have missed any reviews out there, but basically it seems like this lens does not perform as well as the DFA 15-30 or 24-70 at least on sharpness and chromatic aberration.

I have the Tamron 70-200 and it's a fine lens. Optically, the results have been very good for me. It can be loud and slow to focus (but not usually) and the front element seems to get dust inside it easily.
For the price I think it's an excellent value.

That is a fine combo for sharpness and IQ that will made great use of the sensor.
I have no knowledge of the 70-200's though

I have had my Tamron 70-200 for several years now and like Matt says, it is a fine lens optically and an excellent value. So much so that I cannot really justify spending at least twice as much for the Pentax version.

negotiate on price ??? In Toronto, I had to wait until our major camera store had a grand opening of a new store and offered $100 off a DSLR such as the K1. No negotiations possible-tried it, no freebies, not even a plastic bag o carry it home ! Nikon and Canon - always have a sale of some kind, Pentax - never. Oh well, that's life- just part of being part of a unique club.
Canon and Nikon may "always have a sale of some kind", but only if you aren't picky about what you get. Even now, I doubt if there are many sales of the D850.

Actually, the correct extended warranty for the K-1 is $99. The $18 extended warranty is for less expensive cameras.
I picked up that warranty when I purchased my K-1 Mark II. Here is everything on the page. I did not see a limit on the camera amount.

Can only be purchased within 30 days of original equipment purchase. Pentax 2 Year Extended Warranty for all current Pentax DSLR, Compact and Q Cameras. Does NOT cover the 645D or any Ricoh Model. (Total Warranty 3 years - 1 Year Standard + 2 Years Additional)

Pentax Warranty Features
Pentax Ricoh warrants to the original purchaser the product to operate according to factory specifications for a period of three years from the original date of purchase (one-year standard + two-year extended)
Pentax Ricoh will provide, at no charge, one complete check-up at any time during the warranty period. This includes inspection of all camera functions to see that they meet factory specifications.
NOT VALID IN FLORIDA, THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA OR WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
Can only be purchased within 30 days of original equipment purchase.

Webpage: 2 Year Extended Warranty for all current DSLR, Compact and Q Cameras. (Total Warranty 3 years - 1 Year Standard + 2 Years Additional) 85716

Sadly not available any more. I will have to read the card when I get home to see if any limitations there.

I've gotten package deals on Pentax equipment when there was a Pentax rep at the store, but never anything like money off on just a camera.

What is this concept of seeing a Pentax camera in a store? Do you live in an alternate reality?

(Yes I know for whatever reason, stores in Canada seem to sell Pentax. For me in Utah, online or nutin)

True. I was more wishing that we had stores that stocked gear.

I’ve never seen Pentax in a store in the U.S. outside of some used gear.

But, there are sales on Pentax gear all the time. I bought the DA 20-40 when it was on sale, and isn’t the K-1 $100 off right now at some places?

Pentax Rep? What does one look like? Package deal? For me that would be a new camera body in a plastic bag!

What bugs me...our 3 major stores in Toronto actually have product to sell, they just will not always put it on display. They want me to pay, then order it, then look at it, then return for refund if I do not want it. Trials and tribulations of being a Pentax owner.
