OK. Now you've had a recommendation for almost every 3rd party Pentax-Compatible shoe-mount strobe available, both pTTL capable and manual. Posting a question such as "which flash" or "which lens" (even worse) on this forum can really be helpful - seriously.
You are right. The concept of best anything is flawed. Some things can be given reliable numerical values which allow us to decide which item scores highest. For instance, in a horse race one (usually) horse crosses the finish first. It wins the race but that in no way says it is the best horse. Depending on the criteria used it may not even be the best horse in the race. Best is a subjective term which can never be answered to everyone's satisfaction. If I am starving to death the best restaurant in town, which I cannot afford, is not what I need. However, a list of what others have found useful, fun, good, best can be helpful in making a decision.

I have the little Pentax AF201FG for my pop-up flash replacement and the Metz 64 AF1 for 'heavy lifting'. Oh, also have a YONGNUO YN560 IV for fill flash as needed. They all work perfectly on my K1 and K3 II

Edit: I also use the Yongnuo YN560-TX Wireless Flash Controller and Commander to adjust the YN560 remotely.

The 201 is very handy when you need a small fill flash.

Can you suggest a good cheap third party flash for K1??
It really depends on what you want to do with the flash. Is it just to replace the missing built-in flash ? Is it for more advanced work ? Studio work ? Is a full auto flash (P-TTL) needed or a manual one would do ?
